A high school senior's promising future was tragically cut short three weeks before graduation after he was involved in a devastating car crash that split his car in half. Authorities say the Illinois teen was killed in a "fast and furious" accident caused by a drunk driver racing at 131 mph and had his lights off.
Around 11 p.m. on May 12, 21-year-old Taeyoung Kim was reportedly racing his 2021 Ford Mustang at speeds exceeding 130 mph in Glenview, Illinois – a suburb approximately 20 miles northwest of Chicago.
Police said Kim's own dashcam captured him speeding, aggressively passing other vehicles, and running a red light.
Witnesses claimed to have observe Kim driving with his headlights off, according to court documents. Kim allegedly turned his headlights back on as he was entering an intersection. However, it would be too late.

Yesterday I was at the cemetery where he is buried because a lot of my wife’s family is buried there too and we went to tend their graves. Marko’s grave is covered two or three feet deep with flowers. There has been a massive outpouring of sympathy and support for his family from the Serbian Orthodox community and his school. That small semi-rural cemetery was filled to capacity with mourners on Thursday. He was by all accounts a good kid.
I used to live around the corner from where the collision occurred. That is a four-lane street that goes through a business and residential area and is usually busy. There are reasons why the speed limit is 35 mph
The killer’s car has a dashcam that apparently recorded the collision and it also recorded his speeding and irresponsible driving in Chicago a few hours before the collision. It’s a dammed shame he wasn’t stopped before he killed Marko, but my experience is that police presence on those roads is pretty scarce.
A good kid lies under a mound of flowers because of this total bastard.
When I was in high school, the kids who had cars, they were beater cars, handmedown cars from parents.
we crashed them sometimes, but overall realized that if we wanted to have a car we needed to treat them well.
We even checked the oil every fill up, assuming the attendant didn’t offer to do it.
that did not stop us from group buying 100 or $200 cars and beating on them, doing doughnuts and burnouts and jumping them till they died or doing the demo derby at the track
Tie him to the car and drag him.
Interesting the article stated that Kim was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated DUI causing death, reckless homicide, aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm, DUI of alcohol, DUI of drugs, and several traffic violations, including speeding 35 mph over the limit. Kim’s girl friend was treated and released so I have to assume since it is two counts, Niketic’s girl friend has passed also, the article didn’t say.
The worst of the charges is reckless homicide in which the driver is sentenced, if found guilty, to between 6 and 25 years. I am assuming here that because of the points of the case, which displays a complete disregard for life and limb, it should get the maximum. If he survives prison, he’ll release at age 46 in 2050 after it takes time to get the trial completed.
I was attacked from many people when I made the assersion that putting another intoxicant into the public was going to create more unsafe situation. In this case, the mixing of alcohol and cannabas was discovered. Sad way to find out he was blitzed.

My bad mea culpa

You handled that so well. Do you also have the baffoon gene? It keeps me making all kinds of mistakes.
Thanks for sharing that firsthand information. These kinds of stories are heartbreaking.
The 18yo was not driving. A 21yo driving a mustang killed him. Read the story.
Correct. But he was still out late at night. Drunks and criminals tend to hang out in the wee hours.
And kids coming home from after school jobs and competitions snd church small groups.
What a spiteful group of people here at fr!
Sound like the horrific busy bodies gossips of the bad days!
He was a high school senior out at 11 pm, there’s a reason why some parents establish a curfew for their children.
I don’t have a problem with him decorating a lamp post at the intersection in question.
I don’t know what you’re talking about. But it sounds like an insult.
Death penalty. By the victim’s family if neccessary.
Fine by me.
The headline writing is confusing. Probably unvetted AI drivel.
“.88 is pretty marginal. Combining it with pot sounds like a very bad idea”
Same thing with Canadian Justin Bieber in Miami beach a few years ago. Drag-racing Ferraris in narrow residential streets. Arrested, contentious.
Where is Justin Bieber now?
I had a guy blow by me at 100+ with lights off.
This must be the latest thing.
I defiantly have a heavy foot but this is nuts.
