Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) decision to appear this week at former President Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan is sparking new blowback from some House Republicans, who are questioning why he would inject himself so prominently in a case involving an alleged affair with a porn star.
These Republicans, who requested to speak anonymously to discuss the sensitive topic, are accusing Johnson — a devout Southern Baptist who built a career around the fight for Christian values and moral conservatism — of undermining the party’s family values image simply to ingratiate himself with Trump, the party’s presumptive presidential nominee.

The illicit affair (if true) is not the issue in this case.
Slow news day at The Hill.
“ These Republicans, who requested to speak anonymously”
Larry Moe Curly
Perhaps soon they will be unjustly subjected to Democrat lawfare and no one will come to their defense and support them.
Our PDJT, The GOAT, needs to find ways to get stuff done with the people who are gonna be there.
The Pubes voted for Johnson. The Majority has to make deals with the DRats.
Won’t be easy.
The issues at stake these days are far greater. Cheated on your wife with a porn star? Not my problem. Don't care.
Sorry but if you can’t give more than “some republicans” I call complete BS. If they are in company few RINOs that are identified in the article (Romney, Cheney and Murkowski) then who the heck cares?
Some republicans = Pierre Delecto.
Not a good idea to wrestle a pig but sometimes you have to get in the mud with them.
Romney, Murkowski, and Cheney. Those paragons of virtue.
Apparently, as long as the charge is about - gasp! - supposed consensual sex, Christians are not supposed to defend the wrongly accused.
Of course Cheney would be in on that. She’s so “Christian” that she buried evidence so that grannies could be thrown in jail for carrying a flag through the US Capitol.
These people may tithe their mint and cumin, but they have no concept of the idea of justice, or of just how repulsive their ass-covering games are to the Lord of Heaven.
I stand in awe that He has not yet shredded us for what this country has become. I pray He intervenes, to save us from the wickedness all over the place.
Hear, Hear!
Amen
I’ll save everyone the read. It’s Romney, Murkowski and Cheney along with a few “unnamed” Republicans.
Correct. This case is bogus, dishonest, and unjust. It is hardly Christian to support such a case - and standing against it does not mean you support any alleged relationship between Trump and Stormy Daniels.
George Conway and the Lincoln Project “Republicans” probably as well.
Screw any Republican that doesn’t understand what’s going on here. I’d like to know their names.
If Johnson was trying to ingratiate himself with Trump by speaking outside the courthouse, Johnson did a pretty bad job of it. His reading of prepared remarks was terrible. It almost seemed like he was trying to send a secret message that someone was forcing him to read it. He looked down at notes every few words. He didn’t even phrase things properly, as if he had not even read it before.
What the heck? You do know that Romney and Murkowski are in the Senate not the house, right? And Cheney lost her seat last cycle and is now a complete nobody?
Try to keep up.
Romney’s not a ‘house republican’, ya know?
