South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R), who has been under the microscope this week for an anecdote about killing her dog, defended her actions Wednesday, saying she shot the “dangerous” pup in order to protect her children.
“It was a dog that was extremely dangerous,” Noem said Wednesday on Fox News’s “Hannity.” “It had come to us from a family who had found her way too aggressive.”
“We were her second chance. And she was — the day she was put down was a day that she massacred livestock that were part of our neighbors,” she continued. “She attacked me. And it was a hard decision.”
Noem added that she had to make a choice between “keeping my small children and other people safe, or a dangerous animal, and I chose the safety of my children.”

No they isolate the dog to see if it shows signs.
I had a girl friend in HS had a neighbor dog (boxer) that tore her goats udders up, killed chickens etc... what did her father do about it? Nothing.
The brother got back from a couple of years in Vietnam... he not only took care of business... he gutted it, dismembered it, and put it on the neighbor’s front porch. Wow! I think he went back to SE Asia for another tour.
As with most issues that dominate American politics, it’s of no consequence. But yeah.
At the time it was written, she had no aspiration to an office higher than senator in South Dakota.
The people of South Dakota do not see this as a negative. To those who live in rural areas, it is a sign of competence and responsibility.
All the self-righteous indignity is stifling; the dog was NOT a puppy (more than a year old.) And Noem was there and YOU weren’t. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. A bad seed is a bad seed. Some are unsalvageable. And nowhere did she mention that Bambi was nearby.......boo-hoo-hoo!
Everybody knows what’s best..........
Deserve’s got nothin to do with it.
Been looking for that. Seemed like it was somehow scrubbed from the internet by the Big Mormon Information Gods.
Yes this puppy aspect is bs. A 14 month old dog is not a puppy except in affectionate usage.
Only thing deader than that dog is her political career.
OJ Simpson-level double murder. First clue something was off was when she had the NCAA-trans issue fender bender. Throw in the Corey Lewandowski episode and she lacks judgment all the way around.
Dumb is putting this in a book.
Yeh, there are dogs that are just not good dogs. It happens. I would amend my comments to say that most dogs can be trained not to kill the chickens. Cricket certainly could have. I have chickens and I easily stopped my Chihuahua from chasing them and my Beagle.
The problem I have with Kristi Noem is that in her own words she tells you she’s just pretty ignernt about animals. She may have grown up on a farm but she doesn’t know much about hunting or animals
You don’t just throw a 14 month old dog out on a bird hunt and expect it to perform properly. There’s a good amount of training involved. Her lack of empathy is fairly concerning as well. First she shoots the dog then says what the heck lets just shoot the goat too. It sounds to me like she just lost her temper. Then to write about it in a book like it was OK also shows a total lack of insight. Definitely not VP or presidential material.
Shut up already. It was dumb to recount this story in a book and no amount of rationalizing will end the controversy. That said I can understand the situation.. A good friend’s brother brought a St Bernard to their farm in South Dakota. and contrary to the usual gentle nature of the breed this one was vicious and attacked family members. That dog met the same fate of being shot. Sadly in some cases that is the only means of dispatching a vicious dog.
Hannity!
He tried it rehab Magic Johnson this week and the Puppy Killer.
He didn’t cook it?....................
That’s weak sauce. When you’re rural, you take care of things yourself.
She shot the dog and the dog won.
So, you shoot the innocent little chicken to kill the vicious dog who was killing the chickens.
Did I get that right? (Just kidding around about life on a productive farm in rural America.)
“wow... it’s not like she had an abortion...”
Or multiple ones. Those women are celebrated.
Wow. It’s like you planned for this event back in 2000 when you chose your username.
