A lack of air defenses meant Ukraine was powerless to prevent a Russian airstrike last week that destroyed the biggest power plant in Kyiv region, President Volodomyr Zelensky said.
Russia fired 11 missiles towards the Trypilska power plant, Zelensky said. Ukrainian air defenses downed the first seven missiles, but the next four completely destroyed the plant.
“Why? Because we had zero missiles. We ran out of all missiles,” Zelensky told PBS NewsHour in an interview that aired Monday.
Zelensky has repeatedly warned allies that Ukraine’s air defenses are running perilously thin, as Russia has recently renewed its assault on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. But a desperately needed military aid package from the United States has for months been blocked by House Republicans in Congress.
Zelenksy said Iran’s thwarted attack on Israel demonstrated that Western countries were able to protect the skies of their allies. Iran fired more than 300 projectiles at Israel in an unprecedented attack over the weekend, but the attack was stymied with the help of US, UK, French and Jordanian air defenses.
“Israel, by itself, wouldn’t be able to protect against such a numerous, powerful strike. And here, definitely, they used air defense and aviation, many things that, frankly speaking, Ukraine is lacking,” he said.

The Ukraine war is all but over. There’s now reports of large scale surrender of Ukrainian troops and even the vaunted “Azov faction” is now refusing to fight any longer.
Zelensky should build his own damn Missiles.
For those with better knowledge of this;
Does the US have plenty of those defensive anti missile missiles queued up and ready to speedily ship to Ukraine to use if only Republicans in Congress would approve the billions?
Do we?
Or is the money partially to help begin/continue trying to make some more so both we and Ukraine have enough?
I thought our neglected manufacturing capacity for these and mony other arms was so low that we cannot make enough for either one to even catch up for years, much less get ahead of the fight?

Im guessing thats largely correct though plenty is still being questionably used to support the Ukes economy in ways difficult to account for.
Arguments like we dont have missiles to shoot down theirs incoming, they lose impact if the truth is there are none waiting to send and years to build meaningful quantities no matter how much is spent up front.
It is a disgrace that we apparently cant build what we need to fight a war thats not nuclear because we let our manufacturing capability for war materiel collapse as a “peace dividend”.
If true that speaker Johnson is calling for a Uke aid vote, then there’s no choice but to vacate the chair.

I don’t know if it’s true or not. But the spin is that American companies are getting the contracts. They don’t admit to $$$ being spent in Ukraine, as far as I’ve heard.
I’d say “Z” is looking for “secrets” to Israel’s success. And he’d sell them in a minute to N Korea.
Its now more politically expedient to tell the truth, rather than continue with the “we shot them all down” propaganda.
