Three Memphis police officers were taken to Regional One Hospital in unknown conditions Friday morning after a shootout in South Memphis. One of those officers, and an 18-year-old believed by police to be part of the shooting, died at the hospital, Interim Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn "C.J." Davis said later that morning.
According to the Memphis Police Department, in a post to X Friday morning, the officers were called out to a "suspicious vehicle" at Horn Lake Road about 2 a.m. Friday. As they approached the vehicle, the department said the officers were shot at and then "returned fire." Two officers as well the two people believed to be in the vehicle were shot, MPD said.
"The vehicle fled and was located in the 400 block of Hewlett Road," MPD said in the X post. "One suspect was taken into custody immediately. One fled the scene and was located nearby. The two officers were transported to Regional One. Both suspects were transported to ROH."
The officer that died was identified by Davis as Officer Joseph McKinney. McKinney, she said, joined the department in 2020 and was part of the Raines Station alpha shift...
"As a community, we have to do better. We have to ensure that parents know where young people are at three o'clock in the morning. We need to work as a community to do whatever we can with reducing gun violence in our community."

Apparently there was a Glock with a "Glock switch" that converted it to fully automatic. Then the Glock started to become violent and shot the officers.
The fact that one of the suspects had been let go after a recent arrest probably doesn't have anything to do with it.
I went walking in Memphis.......................
The problem is...
It’s not OUR guns,
It’s YOUR sons.
I have rela4ives who live in Memphis, and they are itching to move because crime has become so rampant there that it is dangerous to walk anywhere, especially alone. It is so,bad now that folks have had to install security cameras everywhere, front, back, sides of house- not just to protect their own homes, but to capture possible crimes committed in nearby homes as well.
You mean the 18 YO who was previously arrested in a stolen vehicle with an illegal semi-automatic weapon?
Nah, couldn’t have anything to do with it, could it.
Jeez louise.
A weapon in the hand of of a shepherd boy killed a giant.
A weapon in the hands of a farmer killed his brother
It’s not about the weapons! It’s abput who wields said weapons-
I was raised just southeast of there, in Mississippi, in the 50’s and 60’s.
This isn’t the Memphis I knew.....................
Which is why Deep State has a mad-on for law-abiding gun owners.
The relatives say that too. Rea,ly though, this isn’t the America I grew up in and loved anymore either because liberals have screwed everything g up intentionally so.
Yeah, if those evil LEOs didn’t have guns the innocent folks would still be okee dokee.
The left should be brought up on charges of unnecessarily endangering the lives of people by restricting their God given right to self defense- especially in the face of a rapidly rising criminal society which gleefully opens the borders for terrorists to come pouring through!
I remember walking around the block on Florence street between Union and Poplar avenues with my cousin when we were just 6-8 years old all by ourselves. No way would I let my kids do that now.....................
It’s them again Boo Boo.
Memphis is a chocolate city.
I know what you mean. My relatives lived in boston- and even back in the 60’s it was dangerous to walk around, but not nearly as dangerous as today. We used to go visit them once in awhile, and we could play outside, but couldn’t leave the yard-
I went to Dorchester once and stayed with a friend’s family for a week. One morning I went for a walk, got back to the apartment, and the parents of the friend freaked out and told me never to do,that again- I was naive at the time about city life.
I smell informants and retribution that went sideways. The cops are just the same in Memphis as the criminals. They frequently have overlapping interests.
Indeed even if your French fry bag at McDonalds wasn’t full enough.
Any reason to loot will do
Not the America I wore the uniform for.
