Baltimore Ship ‘Black Box’ Data Recorder Taken by Investigators as Search for Missing Continues
Breitbart ^ | 03/27/2024 | Oliver JJ Lane

The investigation and recovery after the catastrophic bridge strike over the Patapsco River continues, with National Transportation Safety Board officials having boarded the MV Dali and professionals continuing to seek victims of the collapse.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) officials have now removed the MV Dali’s data recorder — like the famous ‘black boxes’ of commercial aircraft — which upon evaluation may contain further information about the cause of the loss of propulsion that seems to have contributed to Tuesday’s disaster.

Among the more mundane reasons for the “lost propulsion” that would have left the ship not able to steer its own way and vulnerable to currents and changing dynamic forces in the water as it crossed dredged channels are dirty or bad fuel, insufficient maintenance, or freak mechanical failure. Nevertheless, it was stated the ship was up to date with its inspections and certifications at the time of the accident.

So what was on it?

This story is useless. Of course they took the “black box”.

I want to hear about the local harbor pilot who should have been piloting the vessel out of the harbor.

We will never know the truth. What we will get is a BS story of Biden’s masterful handling of the crises.

There were two pilots on board

I wonder if the black box was powered by a battery pack or uninterruptible power source, because the whole ship appeared to go dark during the power outages. It’s hard to see in the video but it didn’t even look like there were backup lights on the bridge.

There is the Swiss cheese effect - often cited in disasters like this one. It's when a whole series of independent events which by themselves wouldn't cause a disaster but when combined lead to the end result.

Here's an example for this case - the ship was headed south in the river when it lost propulsion. It was loaded with containers, many probably empty, that completely took up deck space almost to the level of the ship's bridge. Yesterday's thread has the weather at the time of the collision as Wind is 8 knots, gusts to 11 knots, from the east

When the ship lost power, the stacked containers acted as a giant sail pushing the ship to the west, out of the channel and toward the bridge support.

No doubt there were also strong currents heading into Chesapeake bay, which would push a powerless vessel in a different direction

Soon to be right next to hunter’s laptop, never to be seen again.

They gotta have all the facts in order to create their story.

Yes, what you describe would be a standard design practice for a black box device

One for the harbor, one for the Chesapeake Bay.

The ship’s captain still commands the ship, the pilots are in an advisory role. And they certainly aren’t responsible for the mechanical condition of the ship.

The story isn’t useless.

What’s useless is our need for instant gratification as to what happened when, inevitably, time is required to gather all the facts and rule out potential causes.

I was telling my adult son about this today. That ship had a telemetry recorder and they’d be able to find out a lot from it. He said what if they erased it? I then said, well that would certainly tell them something, wouldn’t it, like it was deliberate?

We just got to wait. Patience.

Granted, but why after the initial push to the right did the wind or the current not have any further effect on the ship?

Looking at the video (camera seem to be positioned dead straight at the pier) once the ship is lined up on the pier there does not seem to be any additional force (current of wind) acting on the vessel as you can see straight down both sides of the ship and neither the ass end nor the bow even waiver.

Just my observation.

There’s what should be an interesting video describing the ship’s track from pier to collision embedded in this post from Borepatch, but I can’t get it to play past about 40 seconds. Maybe you’ll have better luck.

Hiya AB,

I was watching TV at 4 in the AM, something I do quite often as I lay, dozing but slightly awake. I was watching Fox News and the story was on, a video of the bridge collapsing and I would open my eye once in a while and in my doze I’d wonder what the hell is going on with the Francis Scott Key bridge.

Took me about half hour to realize what was going on. My granddaughter is coming to visit us this weekend-Easter-and she needed to go over that bridge.

Once I realized that the horror of that picture was the complete and utter collapse of that bridge that I once drove over every day for seven years. I was horrified and screamed for my daughter.

My daughter sleeps in another bedroom and it took a while but she got up and she too had to awake enough to know the FSK bridge was gone. We both watched Fox news in horror.

Of course we had to call the granddaughter, who was up and aware, evidently. She only lives about a mile from that bridge and Dundalk and Essex were awake.

Kaitlyn assured us that she would take the Harbor Tunnel over the Bay and I cross fingers it will be okay.

This is horrible and who knows how worse it will get?

Because, I will shut up here...but folks, Joe Biden has already got Hunter and his brother on the phone and DEALS WILL BE MADE!!!

Merryland is a totally corrupt state, loved by DC....it’s why I moved to Delaware.

If the Republicans don’t step up and take a look at Biden closely....

...well all the more a reason to vote for Trump.

Lets hope the blackbox had power during the event. If it did not have a battery or its own power source then it would have recorded nothing for much of the event. If the navigation systems had no power then the box may also have not recorded anything since its inputs would have most likely have been dead.

“We just got to wait. Patience.”

The problem is if the information doesn’t come out immediately then the cries of cover-up will begin.
