This sounds like what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah when God’s wrath descended upon man’s wickedness. Lot and his two daughters were saved but Lot’s wife was turned into a pillar of salt for disobeying God’s order not to look back. (Genesis 19)

A friend of mine, with whom I used to work, heard a news clip about a foreign threat to “nuke Washington DC.” We both looked at each other and laughed, “What is the downside?”

Hopefully the Aeronautical Museum and the NRA Museum would be far enough away to keep from being damaged. I would mourn the loss of Arlington though.
