Chinese Auto Executive: ‘Bloodbath’ Coming for American Auto Industry
Breitbart ^ | 18 Mar 2024 | John Binder

He Xiaopeng, the CEO of XPeng Motors, predicts a “bloodbath” against America’s auto industry with the help of cheap China-made electric vehicles (EVs).

Over the weekend, former President Donald Trump was campaigning in Andalia, Ohio, when he warned that without fierce new United States tariffs on China-made EVs, the American auto industry will face “a bloodbath for the country” with jobs lost and industry offshored.

“We’re going to put a 100 percent tariff on every single car that comes across the line and you’re not going to be able to sell those cars if I get elected,” Trump said. “Now if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole, that’s going to be the least of it, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the country, that’s going to be the least of it.”

Watch video:

Trump’s remark mimicked comments made by Xiaopeng in a letter to XPeng employees obtained by CNBC last month. Xiaopeng suggested that “a bloodbath” is coming for the American auto industry this year.

China seeks to deliver a “brutal knockout round” against its Western competitors, including the U.S., in the global EV market, Xiaopeng said.

CNBC reported:

“This year also marks the beginning of a fierce competition that may end in a ‘bloodbath’ (or as I prefer to call it, the brutal ‘knockout round’) among Chinese auto makers,” Xiaopeng wrote in the employee memo. [Emphasis added]

“XPeng has engaged in this cutthroat competition right from the outset, thus accumulating considerable experience. Our guts, grit and perseverance, I firmly believe, will lead us to victory.” [Emphasis added]

Wait, do you mean to say that Trump PLAGERIZED the "bloodbath" characterization, and from a Chinaman at that?

It's a wonder the Leftists haven't tagged him for that as well.

Can one EV share “fuel” with another?

Back in the day, used to be able to siphon gas out of one car, starting by sucking it up through a rubber hose snaked down into the gas tank. Had to time it right so as not to get a snootful of gasoline in the process. Then they installed those baffles to deter that sort of thing

I would certainly not recommend trying to do that with electricity instead of gas :)

It is Biden who is driving US automakers into EVs. The revision of CAFE standards make EVs the only real alternative.

The projected average CAFE target in 2026 is 59.4 miles per gallon (mpg) and 42.4 mpg for passenger cars and light trucks,

The most recent regulations known as the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards were set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last year at 49.1 miles per gallon for model year 2026, up from 44.2 mpg for 2024 models, and the industry is bracing to see how much further they will need to go with the cars, SUVs and pickups they sell beginning in 2027.

Under the CAFE standards, manufacturers get credit for each EV they sell in a model year, bringing down the average fuel economy of all the vehicles sold that year. Companies whose fleets fall short of the CAFE standard could face big fines.

If that were true, then Toyota would be in as much trouble as the other automakers. Instead they held their ground, and now they’re coming out way on top. The problems are deeper than just an out of control government.

Maybe Toyota can meet the standard.

The company has faced mounting criticism for its lack of committment to producing EVs — a reluctance that is in large part due to the high cost of manufacturing the cars and Toyoda’s insistence that some markets, particularly the US, aren’t ready for them, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Instead, the company has sought out alternatives in the form of hybrid cars that run on a blend of gasoline and electric, and hydrogen-powered cars. While Toyota has established itself as a leader in hybrids, the company’s dedication to the model has led some to believe it has become a means of avoiding a broader push to electric, the AP reported.

According to Electrek, which tracks the development of electric-powered vehicles, Toyota has generated less than 1% of US sales from non-hybrid zero-emission vehicles and “has the least developed supply chain for reducing carbon emissions.”

At the event, Toyoda said that while “regulations have prompted a race to put out EVs as early as possible” that is ultimately “not Toyota’s approach,” per the Wall Street Journal.

Despite its hesitancy to adopt EVs, the company still made a goal in December 2021 to sell 3.5 million EVs a year by 2030. At the time, Toyota also pledged to make all models in its Lexus line electric in the US, China, and Europe by 2030.

“[It] will be difficult but is something we must do,” Toyoda said in December 2021, the Journal reported.

They will also have to build enormous parking lots just like in China were tens of thousands of EVs sit fully registered and licensed, but unsold because they are so terribly made.

Chinese EVs are the definition of junk. The most popular one in China is the 3-wheeled grandpa EV which requires no license or training to drive. Some seniors who get these cars have never seen a car or driven any vehicle; they love them - everyone else, not so much.

Outside on a cold, dark, wet night, I endeavored to help a (very good looking) damsel’s car in distress.

The latch for the car’s hood, was working OK after I hit it with WD-40. And I managed to get rid of some of the white stuff clinging to the battery terminals.

So, I attached one of the emergency battery cables . . . and then the other, I chose to attach to the hood latch.

Hey, she was very good looking - the girl, that is.

I managed to attach the end of the cable to the hook portion of the hood latch.

The spring very quickly began to glow magnificently! Like a light bulb filament.

DISCONNECT. And try again the right way.
