A strong majority of U.S. adults believe religion is losing its influence in public life, a new Pew Research Center survey found.
Overall, 80 percent of U.S. adults say religion’s role in American life is shrinking, “a percentage that’s as high as it’s ever been,” according to the poll report. Nearly half (49 percent) say the decline of religious influence in public life is a “bad thing.” Eight percent say religious influence is “growing and this is good.”
Only 6 percent say religious influence is “growing and this is bad,” and 13 percent say religious influence is “shrinking and this is good.”

Our Church is 70% under 40 years of age-—they’re bringing other people that are younger as well. At least in our church, the younger adults are seeking what truth is.
The Church of Catastrophic Anthropogenic Gorebal Warning seems to be doing just fine, thank you very much.
It is because America is led by godless communists and perverts.
The 14 percent who think, for good or ill, that religious influence is *growing* are objectively wrong. By almost any relevant metric (e.g., participation at a house of worship, time spend in prayer, study of religious texts), religious observance has declined precipitously.
We needed a survey to tell us this?
Wait until muslims take over.
This country will find out just how much influence religion can have on public life and NOBODY is going to like it very much.
The left hyperventilates over Christianity. They ain’t seen nothing yet.
This could be a mixed blessing. The brand of religion losing influence could be the right kind to lose it.
Those two folks will be rewarded greatly.
30 years ago we moved to a new home and new parish on Long Island. We were in our late 30s. At Mass we were in the lower half of the congregation. 30 years later , I still am. ( my wife having passed a few years ago.)
Just the opposite at TLM.
Our society is going to the dogs even churches are corrupt with libtardism that rewards perversion
God Bless
I disagree. Leftism is a religion for the lost and it is gaining influence. The offshoot church of global warming also seems to have an outsized influence.
Religion on a down slide is one thing, but there is a noticeable lack of morality in general in a lot of areas.
And other traditionally minded parishes. Our 1200 seat sanctuary in Arizona is bursting at the seams at all 8 weekend masses. We aren't allowed to have the TLM anymore, but our priests do their best to keep it Traditional with Gregorian chant instead of happy-clappy guitars, ad orientum at the eucharist, an altar rail, only male altar servers, lots of Latin in the responses,hard-hitting homilies, and tons of incense.
The Woke/Marxist Left today doesn't recognized the importance of Biblical principles and, in their ignorance of the power of Righteousness as defined by God, they are destroying our country and our system of laws.
Democrat Party lawfare (as waged by Merrick Garland, Christopher Wray, Fani Willis, Letitia James, and Alvin Bragg) is a prime example of this.
See Dearborn Michigan for example.
From other surveys I’ve seem, articles read and experience, my take is that the main-stream denominations are dying up, but others are flourishing.
And the reason they are in trouble is because, just as government and academia, the powers that brought about the social revolution of the 1960’s-’70’s began a quiet revolution to change America to what ever ideology they want. That I don’t know.
In essence, patiently, they infiltrated these institutions from the bottom, allowing them to rise to positions of trust in them. And then leading them in change into their ideology and direction. Churches were (are) one of the institutions. They are now controlling the mainline churches. Instead of religion being a plumb-line to keep society upright, they have become one of society and adopted a tainted culture.
The flourishing churches see what has happened and remain true to the church established by the disciples of Christ.
