Three children and two adults were killed when a school bus collided with a semi-truck on Monday in Illinois.

I took a quick look at the youtube trailer for the news report and it stated that it was both of the drivers.

No worries. The NTSB is going to investigate.
Uh huh.
The truck driver was 72...
Biden will be there soon to offer condolences and tell about how he lost family members.
The three children who were killed were the only children on the bus. The driver was 72. The other person was likely caring for the very young children.
In our county we have many bus drivers over 70. They just can’t get drivers.
I have great grandchildren and the best drivers who drove my children to school from kindergarten still driving
Distracted by a child maybe? We will likely never know for certain.
Terrible. A parent’s worst nightmare. Prayers offered..
I am 74 and still drive professionally. I am a safe driver and have been for years. I drive carefully and defensively.
The comments here trashing drivers in their 70’s are ignorant comments by ignorant people.
I enjoy driving.
Do these people want me euthanized due to my age?
Do they want me locked in a padded cell?
“If there aren’t laws against bus drivers over 65 yo, there should be imo.”
I’m in rural Florida. Apparently, there was/is a tremendous shortage of bus drivers. Word is, if you had a CDL they’d hire you the same day.
It could be something simple like a tire blowout. It will take some time but investigators should be able to figure it out..
I guess we are glad the bus wasnt loaded.
Just WOW.
I watched a recent release of Highway thru Hell on the Weather Channel. There was a trucker that was trapped in his mangled cab. It took hours to get him out. It was an amazing recovery..
The bus driver swerved into the trucker’s lane. There likely was nothing the 72-year-old could do.
Those that don’t want anyone over 65 driving, would you prefer someone who couldn’t speak English?
No seat belts on school buses, much less anchors for car seats!
Noted, thanks for the update.
Oh, other reports indicate the 5th person was the driver of the semi, and the semi cab burned too. The cab didn’t look as charred to me, but, that still doesn’t mean the fire wouldn’t kill you, if not the impact. Hopefully it was the impact.
Yes, it’s now reported that the bus driver was a woman, 57, and the truck driver was a man, 72. Also two of the children killed were brother and sister.
One hopes that they were all killed on impact and weren’t alive when engulfed by the subsequent fire.
Most people are A-OK on up to 80 or a bit beyond. My grandfather drove until he was nearly 90. I was about to engage my 80 y/o mother on the topic of giving up driving when she did it on her own.
Absolutely TEST drivers periodically, and maybe more often after 70, and disqualify over other issues, but age alone just isn’t a debilitating factor.
