DEI killed the CHIPS Act
The Hill ^ | 3/7/2024 | MATT COLE AND CHRIS NICHOLSON

Posted on 03/08/2024 7:19:54 AM PST by The Old Hoosier

...The Biden administration recently promised it will finally loosen the purse strings on $39 billion of CHIPS Act grants to encourage semiconductor fabrication in the U.S. But less than a week later, Intel announced that it’s putting the brakes on its Columbus factory. The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has pushed back production at its second Arizona foundry. The remaining major chipmaker, Samsung, just delayed its first Texas fab.

This is not the way companies typically respond to multi-billion-dollar subsidies. So what explains chipmakers’ apparent ingratitude? In large part, frustration with DEI requirements embedded in the CHIPS Act...

Let’s look at the bright side of this insanity. If the DEI requirements are too stringent, does that mean the money won’t be spent?

The chip companies that were trying to re shore chip manufacturing into the US are having huge problems finding disciplined, competent workers to build and staff their chip foundries.

They are also getting killed by American over regulation and delays due to approvals and due to astronomical costs to comply with the regs.

Chip manufacturing requires very high degrees of competency and the DEI requirements to hire unqualified and low performing people are death to their production.

The chip people can't even find enough qualified engineers and tech people from the best of the best in the job market. If they are forced to hire DEI mandated employees they will fail.

“requirements that chipmakers submit detailed plans to educate, employ, and train lots of women and people of color, as well as “justice-involved individuals,” more commonly known as ex-cons.”

The Manchurian president wants to segregate and marginalize white people. His overlords know that it will be easier to conquer a fractious nation.

30years of participation trophies has created a nation of people dumber than dirt, but they are the proudest morons you will ever meet.

I doubt it. They said they were spending some it in Arizona on
a climate change program at ASU. It will all get spent on worthless leftist pet projects as usual, then they’ll come back and say they need another (fill in the blank) dollars to subsidize, you guessed it chip manufacturing.

does that mean the money won’t be spent?

Doesn't mean we'll ever get any of it back.

Now we all know why those chip manufacturers weren't located here in the first place.

Yes. The problem is that due to years of suppression, we do not have a viable modern chip production industry in the US - and that’s a HUGE problem.

Hint: Raytheon can currently only turn out ONE replacement missile of any type per DAY at best due to lack of chip supply.

It wasn’t the only reason, but if they are forced to do DEI, it’s basically impossible.

I find it hard to believe that article came through The Hill.

Well, it truly is an election year, after all.

I don’t know about Intel ‘putting the breaks on’ the Columbus OH plant. There is a megaload truck heading up Rt 23 from Portsmouth OH right now on its way to the Intel plant. It the first of 72 mega and superloads planned for the Intel plant. This thing is on the news everyday right now down here. The load is freaking huge and uses up both lanes, moves about 10 mph.
