Ghana’s parliament on Wednesday approved a bill that will see people jailed simply for ‘identifying’ as LGBTQ+ or campaigning for queer rights.
Being gay has been illegal in the West African nation since the 19th century in a law originating from colonial times.
But lawmakers introduced the bill in 2021 to toughen the anti-LGBTQ+ laws already in the books.
The legislation, known as the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghananian Family Values Bill 2021, is among the harshest anti-LGBTQ+ measures on the African continent, according to Amnesty International.
If signed into law by President Nana Akufo-Addo, being LGBTQ+ would be criminalised and carry a three-year jail sentence.
So-called ‘promoters’ of LGBTQ+ ‘propaganda’ – from activists and donors to journalists – could be sentenced to five years.
Those found to have engaged in same-sex relations – a first-degree felony – will be thrown behind bars for five years. Cross-dressing will also be outlawed.

They are defining a society which does not surrender to sodomites.
I wish them well.
Uh, otay.
Doing it right for the children...
Ironic, isn’t it? The Satan worshipping ragheads come closer to God’s will concerning fags (cf. Gen 19, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1) than our own “mainline” denominations.
What a weird world I find myself living in when I have more in common with Ghanaians than my own Globo-homo Satan-worshipping nation!
Wonder what it takes for a White Hispanic dude to move over there?
The upside is that no one gets thrown off buildings.
I’d have to agree with that.
Same in Nigeria too - I love Nigerians.
God Bless these people!
If westerners went over there to help them modernize their country and build functional infrastructure, we would be “imposing” on their culture.
Yep!
Yep. And we’re instrumental in the split from the leftist UMC.
Sounds OK to me.
Good bless Ghana.
Meanwhile in America a white Christian nationalist is an extremist
Well said.
Not so fast
I have no love for the N's who hack into my email and send out phoney baloney scamessages about "please send an Amazon gift card to my niece who has terminal cancer".
No, you’re wrong.
“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said his faith in God as a Christian has shaped his professional life as a lawyer and politician which has heavily influenced his vision for Ghana and Africa’s transformation.”
Enablers by any other name would smell as sheet!
I read awhile back that the Christians in Africa are generally very conservative when it comes to the Bible. Some denominations have international organizations and the African vote and input is a good push-back against the liberal churches.
We are supposed to care about a law passed in Ghana, when on this day, the CA legislature passed a law lowering the age of consent to 11. ….and not word in the news.
