Let’s face facts; some people are getting richer off the removal of the Klamath River dams.
Glen Spain member [formerly] of Klamath River Renewal Corp. ‘KRRC’ board and fisherman’s advocate said “Economics Not Salmon Is the Reason PacifiCorp is Removing the Dams”
It is now estimated by some experts that the total direct cost for the Klamath River dam removal project, will reach $800-million dollars, not the $450-million cost estimate projected over tens years ago.
And then we have the costs related to the liabilities that are already arising from what is seen by many as an ill-fated project.
According to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (‘FERC’), Oregon and California taxpayers are also on the hook for costs, including over-runs and liabilities:
See Item 75: https://www.ferc.gov/media/h-1-p-2082-063
“FERC Project Nos. 2082-063 and 14803-001-30 As we explained in the June 17 Transfer Order, we continue to find that the $450 million should be sufficient, based on the independent Board of Consultants’ prior review. Additionally, PacifiCorp and the States have committed to creating an additional $45 million contingency fund, and stated that any cost overruns beyond the amount of the contingency fund would be shared equally by PacifiCorp and the States. If the States [CA & OR] and the Renewal Corporation accept the transfer and become co-licensees, they will jointly and severally share the liabilities associated with project decommissioning and be bound by the license as if they were the original licensees.”
Understanding Sedimentation and Sediments in Copco and Iron Gate Lakes:
Our region of Northern California and Southern Oregon is rich in naturally occurring minerals in the mountains and valleys. Some of these minerals are deadly toxins to various organisms, wildlife and humans. Fish and mollusks (filer feeders) are known to concentrate heavy metals into their bodies, rendering them toxic as potential food sources for humans of animals.
Some of the minerals that have been catalogued and measured by the U.S. Geologic Survey, include toxic heavy metals, including chromium, lead and arsenic among others. Even in tiny amounts, these heavy metals can cause serious health impacts, cancer and even death if ingested via water or plant and animal products containing these pollutants in their tissues or milk. Contact with these metals can also cause serious skin conditions.
The science of heavy metal toxicity:Toxicity, mechanism and health effects of some heavy metals
Over time, the impacts of water eroding and leaching-out minerals from naturally occurring deposits create mineral sediments, which can then be carried down streams and into our rivers, including the Klamath River. Gold miners understand this process very well.
When the fast moving waters of a river that is transporting tons of these sediments down-river come to place where the river widens and slows, or to a lake, the velocity of the water slows and the sediments can then settle-out of the water and go to the bottom of the lake.

Ate you in that area??
Our favorite vacation sites were: WA, OR, & NorCal in the summer and early fall.
We gave that up when Oregone and Wash. became fascist states.
Then, we went to Mexico and stayed in time shares or on cruises from Thanksgiving to early spring. We stopped that when we saw teens armed with combat weapons!
We gave up flying after 9/11 and being handled like cattle being prodded into bad situations.
Gotta kill some fishes (and deer) to save some fishes. Or something like that.
Head. Jeff Head. I was there as well.
And isn’t this area down river from where the standoff took place or is my geography off?
yep. Hasn’t Jeff Head passed?
I thought I did see a post on that awhile ago
I work with an agency that was tasked with rescue.
Bttt
I believe many of us here warned of the ecological damage that would be caused by the removable of Klamath River dam.
I could mock these people for their incompetence, lack of basic common sense, and refusal to appoint people with actual experience and knowledge to make these decisions. However, I don’t think that is the case. They are very knowledgeable and competent in what they are doing. They have a plan. That plan is to destroy our country.
Maybe they are planning a fire sale*.
[a sale of goods remaining after the destruction of premises by fire or some other disaster. Usually at a discounted price.]
Even Victor Davis Hanson is leaving
Really? I hadn’t heard that.
Siskiyou county, where this is, voted in 2016

Donald Trump 8,392: 57%
Hillary Clinton 5,252: 36%
Some of the best Patriots I ever stood with. Mostly gone now. Rapidly being replaced by the woke.
“I believe many of us here warned of the ecological damage that would be caused by the removable ..”
Yes, we’ve fought it for so many years. I was otherwise detained for the last three years so the breach surprised me. I thought we had more time. It seemed to catch everyone off guard.
My son says the river is black and dead. So ugly. That kind of ugly should be illegal. I can’t go to see it. I’ve seen too much devastation of this beautiful place. I can barely look at the pictures.
Once upon a time. I guess it was too good to last.
It won’t end here. We tried to stop it 25 years ago before it was in our backyard.

“Head. Jeff Head. I was there as well.”
I must apologize. I don’t remember you.. as if that’s anything out of the ordinary lately.
Lol
“Even Victor Davis Hanson is leaving”
Wow.
When you search on “Klamath River” it is all how wonderful the future is going to be with all the fish coming back. Of course, they say it will take a couple of years as all the sediment goes to the ocean. I had to add the word “Black” to the search before I found a woman who is filling a quart jar every day to show how black the water has become. And what will happen every few years when they have floods and thousands of homes are washed away like the breach at Oroville a few years ago? The dams were put in NOT ONLY for hydropower but also to temper the heavy and light years of rain and snow. I swear if these people behind this stupidity had a brain they would dangerous. Oh wait. They don’t have a brain and they are dangerous.
He is keeping his farm but expanding his place in Idaho.. redoing things there.
