Canada’s University of Waterloo Offers Blacks-Only Swim Hour

The University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, has launched a segregated pool activity called “Black Folx Swim,” which expressly excludes participation by non-black swimmers.

“The aim is to get more Black Folx into a space where they haven’t always been welcomed, while providing them the opportunity to learn swimming skills,” the school’s website states.

Swimming lessons are taught exclusively by “experienced black swimmers/instructors,” the site adds, noting that the segregated pool time “is dedicated to building a better relationship with water for the Black community.”

Maybe they’re just not that interested in swimming, but hey, let’s just assume it’s racism, and “fix” it with more racism.

Well, that sent me to Merriam-Webster.

Since "Blacks" are already mentioned in the title, there must be more to it than the obvious - "Folx is especially used to signal the inclusion of groups commonly marginalized, such as the LGBTQ community."

Because of body density, blacks tend to sink even with a lung full of air, which makes swimming successfully much more difficult for them. ‘Opportunities to swim’ are riskier for them and they wisely tend to avoid it. It’s not racism just Archimedes’ Principle.
