Navy captain’s yelling and public “humiliation” of her officers and crew was so severe and frequent — once for the mistake of pointing out dolphins swimming nearby the ship’s bridge — that sailors were afraid to bring bad news to her attention. That “fear culture” aboard the USS Lake Erie, a scathing Navy investigation found, could have created “a higher risk of having a safety or operational mishap” and an “unsafe command environment where sailors do not … exercise sound judgment.”
…
As the commander of the Lake Erie, the report found, DeFant grabbed or struck her officers while they were on duty on the ship’s bridge, alienated the ship’s senior enlisted crew known as the Chief’s Mess, overreacted to minor transgressions like pointing out the dolphins, and in a briefing to an admiral failed to mention abysmal feedback she had received from the crew.
The admiral who eventually fired DeFant wondered if she had “deliberately whitewashed” the crew’s comments.
At least twice, investigators found, DeFant grabbed or hit an officer on the ship’s bridge, while they were on duty as the ship’s Conning Officer, the watch position directly responsible for the heading, speeding and steering of the ship, who is said to “have the conn.” …
The investigation of DeFant was first reported by KPBS in San Diego, which received the report via a Freedom of Information Act request.
DeFant was relieved of command of Lake Erie by Rear Adm. Christopher Alexander, on October 12. Alexander, the commander of Carrier Strike Group Nine, endorsed the findings of the investigation on October 5.
DeFant was the captain of the Lake Erie for almost two years. The investigation was launched, the final report says, about 14 months into her command, after three anonymous complaints of “toxic command climate and sexual discrimination.” …

Thats one ugly POS.
“I would prefer that all members of our military, would limit the number of ribbons, to 3, and the number of metal insignia (such as Surface Warfare, Wings, etc.) to 1.
Each member of the military, gets his/her choice re which ribbons to wear.”
NO. Awards and decorations are earned over a career. They should be proudly displayed.
“Those....EARS....
my goodness...”
“Don’t make fun of THOSE EARS”, we were told in 2008..
I wonder if these charges occurred AFTER two US Navy ships collided with other ships? (and a seamount?)
Definitely a man hating lesbian.
Nob big deal. We had Jr HS football and basketball coaches who would do that.
He or she HATE THEMSELVES WHEN THEY LOK IN THE MIRROR. SO THEY TAKEIT OUT ON OTHERS!
How did she pass through so many job reviews and promotion portals without somebody noticing her lack of charm? Looks like the Navy was passing her through for diversity.
Political Officers of the DoD
?
Why?
Because I now see members in uniform, who are age 21 - 24, with 3 rows plus, of ribbons. Much more, than decades ago.
Perhaps, too much Theater, Tour, and Participation Medals?
Most of the men I knew (almost all have passed away), if you asked, would tell you that 3 or so medals, were important to them, and their medals had an interesting history. These fellows often did not include some medals.
They would instead, only use:
Silver Star
Bronze Star with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters
Navy Cross
DFC
DSM
And their Wings - a single insignia. For examples.
Yet, my concern is not something that I would try to enforce; just a suggestion.
See my reply 51.

Somebody got incidents on tape. Without them, this would have been buried.
I would suggest it is a woman who wishes she were a man
It certainly does. It’s hard to tell if it’s a he turned she, or a she all along.
The disgrace here is that it took the navy so long to deal with it.
Women are horrible leaders and should never be put into positions of power, especially over other women.
In 70 years, I’ve never seen it work well.
Dem women are particularly evil and emotionally unstable.
Sounds like 3/4 of the senior managers I have worked with.
Real and honest question. Is this considered wrong in the military? It is considered “Tuesday” in private industry.
“Visiting San Diego, I watched a female (in appearance) USCG senior petty officer barking orders.
She sounded like a teenage girl on a playground, yelling.”
I had to work for one of those for 3 years in the Navy. She didn’t yell, but it was like working for your little sister. Not only absolutely no leadership ability, but she had no, and I mean zero, experience in what she was supposed to be supervising. 100% affirmative action promotion. There is a white male out there, way more qualified than her, who did not get promoted because she did.
The person she hit was another woman who then went snowflakeish
Gee: Why am I not surprised? /s
