World War II 1LT. He commanded white Army troops assigned to the Brooklyn Navy yard during the War, as an experiment to see how white troops would react to being ordered by a negro (sic) officer. He was also court-martialed for refusing to ride in the back of the bus on an Army base in the South during the War. A panel of white officers exonerated him.
When I lived in the Phiippines back in the late Sixties, they had problems with Filipino Communists (HUKs) who came on the base and tried to steal power lines in remoter parts of the base for the copper.
I recall an incident where two of these insurgents got electrocuted in the effort, but it wan’t an uncommon thing.
In our neighborhood, it was not uncommon to see a Filipino solder, WWII style helmet, M-1 Garand slung over his shoulder, walking to and fro in the neighborhood as he stood watch.
It’s probably them again, Boo Boo.
Haters. I remember a Sacajawea statue stolen in Oregon. I don’t think they ever found the head.
Sure startled me when on an evening jog. Decided no more running in housing area. Too dang hot to be running and or becoming inadvertent 30.06 target.
