Sununu: Trump ‘nervous’ because ‘money is coming’ to Haley
The Hill ^ | 01/26/2024 | TARA SUTER

Gov. Chris Sununu (R-N.H.) said former President Trump is “nervous” because “money is coming” to GOP presidential primary candidate Nikki Haley, whom Sununu has endorsed.

Haley has “wind and momentum,” Sununu said in a recent interview with Wolf Blitzer. He also noted a recent threat the former president made about donating to Haley.

“The money is coming in to Nikki Haley, and that’s why he’s nervous,” Sununu said. “She’s got momentum in her home state.”

sununu is a bad joke anyway

Haley just has to wait for a vacancy (2028 when President Trump won’t be running again)

she could have maybe become PDJT’s Veep and thusly positioned herself well for 2028, but she verbally self-destructed

it is strange, but perhaps understandable, how the republican 11th commandment has been so thoroughly forgotten

It is fascinating how Lefty media is seeking out RINOs, as if conservatives would actually trust 1) what RINOs have to say, and 2) what RINOs reported in Lefty media have to say.

We used to go to NH often when it was a Conservative stronghold. The Union Leader was a great pPaper. Now the state is larded with Democrats from NY,Mass, etc. And the landscape has changed for the worst.

Most don't care, but they want to influence the flexible voters, like suburban women to gobble up this marketing.

“Sununu his hanging on to Nikki’s candidacy with his fingernails. Here’s a Governor that shepherded her around his state of a MONTH and he still lost”.
________________________________________

It’s very easy to dump on Sununu, I get it. But there’s something more alarming about Trump’s electoral prospects that very few on FR are willing to acknowledge.

Trump hit his high water mark in the 2020 election when he carried 46.8% of the vote. Today, he is stuck in the mid 40s with zero prospect of increasing that number. He is a known quantity. The voters know him well, and no one is changing their mind about him. If the electorate was comprised exclusively of patriotic white males, Trump would have a historic landslide in 2024, winning 98% of the vote.

Unfortunately the electorate is far more diverse.
As Trump’s loyal base celebrates his “victories” in Iowa and New Hampshire, what do those results really reveal? I submit the following:

As a de facto incumbent, Trump should have been able to vanquish his GOP opponents decisively (80 – 90%), especially after spending tens of millions of dollars in negative attack ads throughout 2023. Instead, between 45 and 50% of GOP voters in IA and NH said they wanted someone other than Trump to be the nominee. This is more than a little alarming at this point, and one could argue it shows weakness.

Trump’s base has proven to have enough strength and loyalty to fend off other GOP challengers. The larger question – Can Trump actually expand his appeal to other segments of the electorate that would be necessary to pull off a General Election victory? He remains in the process of insulting and bullying his way to the GOP nomination, along the way permanently alienating a huge swath of Republican and Independent voters who would be essential to building a winning coalition.

I am no supporter of Nikki Haley, but I also know Trump will need her voters. Rather than showing some conciliation and respect, he continues with his childish ways (referring to her as “bird brain”, for example), and telling her voters that they are not welcome in the MAGA camp. Unbelievable for someone who is seriously interested in winning a general election!

Of course, this gets his base charged up, all the while driving away moderates and independents he would need in November. I wonder what Italian Americans think about all the months he made fun of Ron DeSantis’ name? Trump doesn’t seem to care – this is all about Trump and getting his vindication. It is no surprise that he remains stuck in the mid-40s when matched against the feeble and corrupt Biden.

With Trump now a lock to win the nomination, Biden will proceed to mostly stay in the basement (along with a few trips to Philly, Detroit, Milwaukee, and perhaps Maricopa and Fulton Counties). Just last week, I saw the leader of a black mega church in Detroit describing how they are putting together a massive turnout operation for Biden in November. Along with these few visits, Biden’s team would then blanket the swing states with $2 billion in slickly produced ads and possibly squeak out a victory in November. At some point thereafter, he would turn the keys over to Kamala Harris.

This is a scary prospect, but recent history shows the concern is real. The best step he could take to begin expanding his base would be to select someone like Glenn Youngkin as a running mate, and stop belittling and deningrating fellow GOP candidates!

--- "... they want to influence the flexible voters, like suburban women to gobble up this marketing."

My wife and I have been swaying the liberal gals who have kids with the simple reference to the US Debt Clock's calculation of what their kids and grandkids already are supposed to owe as their "share" of the lunacy which has been the Democrats and RINOs in Congress and governments, local to federal.

Once, "your kids (and grand kids as applicable) owe ~$250+ K EACH" gets past the Lefty mind excuses, they seem to sober up rather nicely.

We know one family of libs with two kids and two grandkids. Doing the calculation for them -- it took several times -- to show their children's future indebtedness was an eye-opener.

“Money isn’t votes”

Exactly. Shrillary raked in way more money than Trump back in ‘16. Didn’t help her.

Trump hit his high water mark in the 2020 election when he carried 46.8% of the vote.

It's more strategic than that. He lost in a handful of states by thousands of votes, specifically in Blue cities large enough to swing the state. The GOP just needs a game plan, it may be as simple as Trump campaigning in Philly and Pittsburg, and Atlanta and Phoenix, and Detroit and Grand Rapids. etc. If he can swing those cities by 1 %, he wins. Which is why I favor a Black VP candidate.

Yup... since the passage of the 17th Amendment the uniparty elite, K Street lobbyists have played this game. It’s time to repeal the 17th Amendment and remove the power from the lobbyists and the party leadership in DC

Sununu is a classic case of the rule of opposites.

When he says something exactly the opposite is true.

Translation: The Democratic fatcats are bailing on Nikita and the end is near.

Yes, but in states run like NH it is used to payoff opponents (think “10% for the big guy”) to grab a microphone and lie some more.

Sununu did a great job for Nikita in NH compared to what she is going to do for herself in South Carolina—if she lasts that long.
