Most of the GOP field probably expected the lawfare to take out Trump before the primaries actually started. If that had happened they would would have absolutely been needed.
I am still not convinced that their have been enough reforms to push Trump over the margin of cheat. Several of the swing states he won the first time are pretty much off the table. He won the first time because they weren't expecting the amount of support he had.
The only thing that has changed since 2020 is the amount of hopium being smoked.

Not rock-ribbed conservatives, to be sure, but hardly poor candidates. Nixon, of course, would have won in 1960 but for Joe Kennedy buying the election, and Bush slaughtered Dukakis (albeit on Reagan’s coattails).
People who make poor candidates tend to have all of the charisma of a tree stump - and maybe that’s DeSantis, but I think that 4 good years of Trump plus some polish might change that a bit. I would love 12 consecutive years of those two, it might actually turn this country around.

It took him almost a year. I wrote in March 2023 that the presidential nominating race was already over, and President Trump won.

That came to my mind also. Let’s stop the DeSantis derangement syndrome. Trump can’t do it all forever. We need more thinking conservatives, like DeSantis. No one, not DeSantis, not Trump, not you or me, is perfect but Trump and DeSantis have been willing to take abuse from the press while trying to serve America and Americans. Halley is out there to take media praise. If someone can’t see the difference, they are blind.
I stated my opinion, no more, no less. I have learned not to trust politicians, especially politicians who are lawyers, Republicans and Democrats alike. DeSantis hasn’t earned my trust. He is too closely tied to the GOPe/RINO big money segment of the deep state.
DeSantis needs to go home to Florida and do his job to the best of his ability for the rest of his term. Once he leaves office, he can look to the future. If he chooses to run again, that’s fine, but he needs to work hard to define himself as more than just someone who isn’t Trump.
If he’s the best option in 2028, I would certainly vote for him.
