House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Wednesday that Joe Biden's presidency is "God's will."
The Louisiana Republican and evangelical Christian took over House leadership in October following Kevin McCarthy's tumultuous tenure. Johnson, who has served in Congress since 2016 but whose platform and personal ideologies were not relatively known prior to taking the gavel, has faced scrutiny by some for views characterized by some as "dangerous." He evoked scripture during his October 25 speech, saying: "The Bible is very clear that God is the one that raises up those in authority." He said that Marxism and communism fail because their ideologies do not stress a belief in God, and he espoused a pragmatic sentiment imploring all House lawmakers to take advantage of the gifts they receive from God. On Wednesday, following a Republican conference meeting on Capitol Hill, Johnson was asked by a journalist if he thought Joe Biden's presidency was "God's will." Johnson harkened to the speech he made just before he was voted speaker.
"I said in my speech before I took the gavel that I am a Bible-believing Christian," Johnson responded. "A Bible-believing Christian believes what the Bible says, right? The Bible says that God is the one that raises up people in authority. I believe God is sovereign. By the way, so did the founders. "It must have been God's will then. That's my belief, right, but I think that a nation makes a decision collectively 'cause we're given the free will to do that, and I think we're gonna make a much better choice as a country coming up in this election cycle. We're very much looking forward to that regime change." ...

Divine Right of Kings?
Joe Biden never even heard of God.
IIRC, there was an old preacher from way back in the 1950s that said something along the lines: “When God punishes a nation, He does so by allowing them to have crappy leaders”. Food for thought.... /s
The nation didn’t vote for Biden.
What an incredibly stupid thing for Johnson to say.
The man is Not Ready for Primetime.
IMHO it's incorrect to interpret Johnson's statement about Biden as Johnson saying we should all blindly follow Biden because God put him in the WH. Johnson was responding to a trap question and turned it into saying that we should always trust God no matter who's in the WH.
Seems like when you are in Washington and get elevated to a certain level, you are obligated to get your TV time and say stupid stuff.
Personally think of God as being the "watchful eye" and the "Good Father" and as being "Hopeful".
Unfortunately the cost of getting him out of the chair is going to be him getting rolled on something big and then being obligated to pass it with Democrat votes, like McCarthy.
(Just a nice polite little Baptist boy...)
Please make me think you are something other than a feckless cuck, Mike.
This guy is weak. Apparently he has never heard of Bonhoeffer.
Johnson exactly correct. A lot of people have trouble accepting that it is God’s will that they and their nation be punished.
So it's not like he walked into an ambush, it's more like he actually set it up his own self, and all the media had to do was to ax the obvious question that he himself had set up for them.
There’s an old saying: “You get the type of government you deserve.”
I’ve also heard it said that after 60,000,000 abortions in America that if God doesn’t bring judgment on America, then He will need to apologize for what He did to Sodom and Gomorrah.
And then there’s the whole sexual degeneracy/perversion/pedophilia explosion. (I will no longer use the whole “politically correct” 4 or 5 letters & sometimes a bunch more identifying their sexual perversions.) I think “homosexual agenda” says it all.
I have to agree. It was god’s will to expose all the corruption in politics and the media It was god’s will to expose how bad the leaders of the Democrat party and some Republicans actually are. The last 4 years has put it all on display for everyone to see.
The Lord is sovereign over all things. This is what Mike Johnson was saying. Now you may think it's STUPID, but this is what's in the scriptures...
Daniel 2:21 and he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding....
Prov. 29:1 The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
Exodus 4:21 And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.
Johnson needs to understand the difference between God’s permissive will and his actual will.
