FReeper Canteen ~ A TIME FOR EVERYTHING ~ 14 January 2024

A TIME FOR EVERYTHING

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

A time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

A time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

A time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

A time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

A time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

A time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Howdy, luvie.

Let’s see if I can get this posted before I lose ‘net again. Been one of those days/nights. *sigh*

Did you have a nice day to enjoy before winter crashes in?
Brisk here but it’ll seem toasty compared to what’s in store the next week.

From what they say, I should be able to get some good snow pix. They predict 6 inches for our area. :-(

A Gaze Fixed on God

Bible in a Year :

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you.

Isaiah 26:3

Nineteenth-century Scottish pastor, Thomas Chalmers, once told the story of riding in a horse-drawn carriage in the Highlands region as it hugged a narrow mountain ledge, along a harrowing precipice. One of the horses startled, and the driver, fearing they would plummet to their death, repeatedly flicked his whip. After they made it past the danger, Chalmers asked the driver why he used the whip with such force. “I needed to give the horses something else to think about,” he said. “I needed to get their attention.”

In a world overflowing with threats and dangers all around us, we all need something else to arrest our attention. However, we need more than merely mental distraction—a kind of psychological trick. What we most need is to fasten our minds upon a reality more powerful than all our fears. As Isaiah told God’s people in Judah, what we truly need is to fix our minds on God. “You will keep in perfect peace,” Isaiah promises, “all who trust in you” (Isaiah 26:3 nlt). And we can “trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock” (v. 4 nlt).

Peace—this is the gift for all who fix their gaze on God. And His peace provides far more than only a technique for holding our worst thoughts at bay. For those who will surrender their future, their hopes, and their worries, the Spirit makes an entirely new way of life possible. .

Reflect & Pray

Where do you normally fix your attention? How might you renew your gaze on God?

Dear God, my mind can be a scary place, and I fear so much. Please give me Your peace.

Wow! That’s a big drop! Yep, heavy coats are in order for a while. LOL
I hope the kitties wise up and crawl into their warm spots. The wind chill is going to be rough.

It got up to around 40 here, with a biting wind, and is going to drop into the teens overnight. High tomorrow around 28 with snow moving in this area a little after suppertime. Monday, we get a LOT more snow all day long. Since we won’t get above freezing until Thursday, it’ll stick around. With the road I live on not getting treated, I won’t be going anywhere.

Hi, Kathy,
The cold arrives in the Atlanta area Tuesday night
with a low of 19 degrees...
No precipitation is anticipated in the forecast...
I am hibernating!

Right now there isn’t much wind so the wind chill is negligible, but that could change. Shadow wants IN! He was in for a bit but I put him out when I had the chance so he wouldn’t hide under the car again. He was just trying to FORCE the back screen open a bit ago. LOL! Poor guy. I feel bad, but he has a lovely heavy coat and there ARE warm spots if he’ll just seek one of them out.

I do NOT envy you that snow! I don’t blame you for sticking to home. A bad road and snow is a dangerous combination. I’m sure your fixed for supplies for the doo-rashun. You’re good at that!

A very pleasant good Sunday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

The cold from came a bit earlier than anticipated and we stayed below freezing yesterday. We did have ribs for supper and spent a few minutes at Comanche Lake yesterday.

How's everyone doing this morning?

There’s no wind blowing here at the moment, either, but it’ll pick up again. You’re JUST outside the wind chill advisory area so maybe you won’t have strong winds. Plus it might not get as cold where you are. Any breeze at all will make it miserable though.

Our lows are going to be 10 or below tomorrow night through Tuesday night and our wind chills will be below zero.

Poor Shadow. I wish he could stay in the garage where he desperately wants to be. I’d go ahead and let Ginger be in a snit about it. She’ll get over it. But that’s just me. :-)

If the roads were level, it wouldn’t be so bad but you’re either going uphill or downhill anywhere you go around here. Without chains, there’s no way I can go anywhere until the snow melts. I’m well-stocked so won’t need to go anywhere but it still sucks to feel trapped. I like to get out and about.

I was looking forward to this week. The Republican women’s meeting is scheduled for Thursday but I imagine that’ll be cancelled. And those two large groups are scheduled to be at the museum next Saturday. That’ll probably be cancelled, too, because they’re calling for snow again Friday.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Bummer you and Gizmo didn’t get to stay out very long yesterday but at least you got out for a little bit. Bet those ribs warmed you up afterwards. :-)

I hope your new heater keeps y’all nice and warm during this frigid blast.

Hibernating seems like a very good course of action. Glad you aren’t supposed to get any precipitation.

Stay warm!

If I could close the door between the kitchen and the garage, I’d have all of them who would to be out there. But that’s where the litter box is for Ginger and Peaches, so it has to stay open, even though it’s darn chilly with it open right now, and I can’t trust Shadow overnight. He’s not housebroken at all. I’ll be watching them closely and making sure they have un-frozen water. They do have warm spots if they’ll only use them. That’s the best I can do.

I know it’s hard to be housebound when you’re used to being out and about, but it’s smart not to trust the road during icy conditions. I hope that the folks at the museum will re-schedule the two groups so they can be there at another time.

Well thanks, I actually slept really well last night. The room temp was 68 degrees. The wall heater is doing it's job.

I may go ahead and bake chicken for supper today instead of going to Sonic like I do every Sunday. We'll see how the day goes.

It doesn’t take much to house-break a cat. If there’s a litter box, he’ll use it. It’s pretty uncommon for a cat to not use one. Even little kittens will use a box once they’re able to get into one. It’s just a natural thing for them.
Much easier than a dog.

Your biggest problem is Ginger and fights that could ensue.

Yeah, it’s going to be rough being stuck for so many days. I might go out and drive around tomorrow afternoon, just to be somewhere other than here. LOL

We’ll see what happens as far as the groups who are scheduled for the museum next weekend. Maybe the snow won’t hit this area.

Great that the heater is doing a good job. We don’t want you and Gizmo getting chilled.

I gather you aren’t expecting snow this round. They have your area under a wind chill advisory but nothing about winter storm watches or warnings. Lucky you! We have it all over here. BRRRRRR

I hope the snow passes you by. But at least it doesn’t linger like it does farther north. I would NOT want to be there right now.

And now I have to go. It’s going to be hard to get to sleep, but I have to try or I’ll hate myself in the morning. See ya tomorrow!

Hope you have better weather today and enjoy the day.
