January 11

A Simple Request

Bible in a Year :

If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.

John 21:22 “Please clean the front room before you go to bed,” I said to one of my daughters. Instantly came the reply, “Why doesn’t she have to do it?”

Such mild resistance was frequent in our home when our girls were young. My response was always the same: “Don’t worry about your sisters; I asked you.”

In John 21, we see this human tendency illustrated among the disciples. Jesus had just restored Peter after he’d denied Him three times (see John 18:15–18, 25–27). Now Jesus said to Peter, “Follow me!” (21:19)—a simple but painful command. Jesus explained that Peter would follow Him to the death (vv. 18–19).

Peter barely had time to comprehend Jesus’ words before he asked about the disciple behind them: “What about him?” (v. 21). Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?” Then He said, “You must follow me” (v. 22).

How often we’re like Peter! We wonder about the faith journeys of others and not what God is doing with us. Late in his life, when the death Jesus foretold in John 21 was much closer, Peter elaborated on Christ’s simple command: “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do” (1 Peter 1:14–15). That’s enough to keep each of us focused on Jesus and not on those around us. .

Reflect & Pray

How are you tempted to compare your faith walk with others? How will you keep your focus on Jesus today?

Heavenly Father, please continue to conform me into the image of Your Son.

I made it through the Mon./Tues. storm intact. We’ll see if I get as lucky Friday when we have a repeat.
Then an arctic system comes through Sun. through Tues. and that one will give us some snow. And brutally cold temps.

MAYBE that storm will be the last for a while. I sure hope so! This isn’t fun for anyone in the storms’ paths.

I was glad to see the lack of snow up there the past couple of days. It did look like it would snow at any moment today though. Ugly sky.

Hey there, radu!

It’s always sweet to see our troops with their kids! So much love there.

It was a nice day. I didn’t see much of the kitties, though. Grey and Li’l Bit were the only ones who showed up to eat this morning. Not sure why. I was awfully glad to see all of them this evening, though. They don’t need to make me worry!

How were things over your way? More snow soon?

Your kitties were probably out roaming their territories; something they haven’t done much the past several days. Making sure they haven’t been invaded is more important than breakfast. LOL

It wasn’t too bad here. We had some sunshine but it was a bit breezy. It was 46 when I w as out and about this afternoon and when the breeze would die down for a minute, it felt nice enough.
Tomorrow and Friday will be around 55 but Friday will be wet and very windy, like Monday. A slight risk for severe weather.

Sunday through Tuesday is what I’m dreading. That’s when the arctic blast comes through and it’ll be c-c-c-c-cold. And windy. Highs Monday and Tuesday only in the low 20s with lows 10 or below. Very similar to the storm system that hit Christmas 2022. They don’t know, yet, how much moisture will be with it but any snow that falls will stick and stay around a day or so. We’ll be back above freezing from Wednesday, on, but still in the 30s the rest of the week.
It’s January.

Sanity? None left...but these 3 days have been interesting. The boss boss, who lives in Florida, is now working Alaska hours (my boss is in the hospital). She is working 12p to 9p and beyond Monday and Tuesday nights.

First checks of the year meant so many things had to be looked at...new rates for taxes, insurance, unemployment insurance, etc, etc. All needed to be checked, presuming the reports would run correctly after updates (not all did). We spent time late yesterday entering reversal data for something the system was supposed to have done last week. We split up the list and finally got all of them entered, reports rerun, strays fixed, and reports run again til all were corrected.

I am so glad these 3 days are behind us. Everything to get folks paid was finally done and we got “to go home” an hour early. (We all work from home. LOL!) I need some sleep. Giving up here shortly.

I’ll bet you’re all more than relieved to get these three days behind you. Sounds like a nightmare, and your job’s already bad enough as it is. And, of COURSE, there’d be something out of whack somewhere in the system to hold y’all up.
But with all the hassles, you still got to “go home” early today? Amazing!

Early to bed sounds like a GOOD plan. I doubt you got much sleep.

Well, whatever they were doing, the prospect of food didn’t bring them in this morning. Of course, there was probably food in their dishes all night to snack on. Till time for the stupid doves to swoop in on it. Then it’s gone.

Our low next Monday is supposed to be about 12. High, 31. Yep. January. Can’t be shocked. It happens every year. I just have to be prepared to make sure the kitties have water that’s not ice cubes. They have warm spots if they’ll only use them. Which they haven’t so far. I’ve even tried to keep all the dead leaves and debris out of them. Silly cats.

Are you still snowless? Using your wood stove?
