Key Findings | Individual and Community Preparedness Division
FEMA has conducted the National Household Survey on Disaster Preparedness annually since 2013 to assess preparedness actions, attitudes and motivations in the United States.
The survey measures preparedness of the American public across the whole community.
The survey was fielded from February 1 to March 14, 2023.
Data was collected using a web-based survey written in English and Spanish.
7,604 responses were received.
Everyone was asked general disaster and pandemic preparedness questions.
Some people identified as being at greater risk for one of the hazards surveyed were asked additional preparedness questions related to that hazard.
Responses were adjusted by key demographic variables to better reflect the composition of the general public.

Thanks, I did forget.
I’m on my second 10-pack (14 pills each/140 total) of IOSAT Potassium Iodide Tablets. With a 10-year shelf life, and the 2nd pack expiring next year...it blows my mind I’ve had these around for almost 20 years. I’ll be ordering another round soon...and upping the quantity thanks to your suggestion for the grandchildren. I hope the 3rd round expires also! Thank you!
Dunning-Kruger effect example right there.
I’d suggest that they really don’t expire. I certainly ignore the expiration dates on mine.
Found this little gem in there.
“Since last year, there was a large increase in the percentage of people who assembled or updated supplies, but also a large decrease in the percentage of people who signed up for alerts and warnings.”
Translation: people think government is causing the problems, and therefor, they don’t trust their opinions or advice on the topic. Or worse, suspect it’s deliberately wrong.
It was telling the survey what actions they had taken, not what they have.
It was just general questions such as have they done an evacuation plan, safeguarded documents, assembled or updated supplies, tested family communication plan, signed up for alerts.
Really! Then I’ll keep the expiring 10-pack, but also buy some new. Thanks.
And to expand on that - it’s a salt, the chemical bonds are very, very strong. Nothing that happens in your closet or basement is going to break that, as long as you keep it dry, unless you’re suddenly sitting on an active volcano. In which case, it’s been nice knowin’ ya!
Looking across the way to the clear salt grinder with the pink Himalayan salt in it - that pink salt sat there for probably millions of years before someone dug it up and sold it.
I think that’s a great approach.
Remember the ages Potassium Iodide Tablets are useful for and the cut-off age for their use.
I don’t know if the sites that sell the stuff mention the ages.
“KI is recommended only for people under 40 and pregnant or breastfeeding people.”
KI protects only against radioactive iodine and does not protect against other types of radiation.
KI protects only the thyroid. KI does not protect other parts of the body.
KI must be taken within 24 hours before or 4 hours after exposure to be most effective.
KI is not a treatment and cannot reverse damage already done to the thyroid.
KI may not give a person 100% protection from radioactive iodine.
Most radiation emergencies will involve other types of radiation and not radioactive iodine alone. Radioactive iodine is most common in nuclear power plant incidents.

Houston Rescuers Prove the Lie of ‘Toxic Masculinity’

First we have the AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY conducted annually by the CENSUS BUREAU to spy on people.
Now, we have FEMA’S version of ‘out-of-control’ government spending on surveys to spy on people.
Same as my answer on if I own guns, raise a garden, who I vote for, ethnic background, where I go to church....
None of the government's business and letting perfect strangers have access to that information is unwise.
That’s nice, but I was just pointing out what this survey was asking, and it wasn’t what you thought it was.
That is what I thought also, same for the under 60 category versus the over 60.
In Obama’s Netflix oddly titled movie, Leave the World Behind, it was strange that the rich neighbor left a fully stocked under ground bunker’s unlocked door open. Even more strange was that Kevin Bacon knew about the bunker and told a stranger about it. Most strange was when Kevin Bacon while defending his property with a shot gun did not shoot the looter who aimed a gun at him. There were a lot of plot holes in Obama’s production.
