An Ohio prosecutor has indicted a smoke shop manager for allegedly shooting to death a 16-year-old boy during a robbery attempt — but warned that people “should expect to be shot” if they target stores.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers filed the charges against the manager, Tony Thacker, 29, for allegedly shooting at would-be robbers as they fled VIP Smoke Shop in Delhi Township on Oct. 20..
“There is simply no justification for shooting at someone as they are running away,” Powers said ..
“However, I want to make perfectly clear — these retail thefts will not be tolerated. If you try to rob a store, you should expect to be shot,” ...
Thacker was inside the store when several people threw rocks through the front window to gain entry.
Thacker, who lived in the back of the business, went to investigate when he heard the glass break and encountered 16-year-old Travis Johnson and 19-year-old Amontae Carter, according to the outlet.
The manager, who is not permitted to own firearms due to an adjudication for a felony he received as a juvenile, allegedly gunned down Johnson and kept firing at the other suspects as they tried to flee in stolen cars, the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Carter was reportedly struck in one of the vehicles.

Right.

Not a lawyer, but as I understand it, you may only use deadly force if you have reasonable fear for your life. The manager who lived in the back of the shop heard people breaking into what amounts to his home. As I read the story, he shot one in the shop, but then kept shooting at the fleeing car killing the thug in the car. That’s what he’s in trouble for.
Someone running away (and not firing ‘parting shots’) is no longer a threat.
It also says he is barred from possessing firearms because of a juvenile felony. I was under the impression that juvenile felonies ‘don’t count’. But in any case, if I were he, I’d’ve invested in several black-powder weapons. An 1858 Remington Army repro will kill a robber just as dead as a .38 special. And there cheap shotguns available as well. You can get them through the mail in most states.
The store manager is a felon. He should never had a gun, essentially shot people in the back, he deserves conviction and jail. The crooks should be dead, but not shot in the back as they flee. Business should be held liable for hiring an armed felon as well.
This lunatic prosecutor might want to explain why such robbers should EXPECT to be shot when SHE IS PROSECUTING A SHOP OWNER FOR HIS SHOOTING THE ROBBER.
Were Rajveer, Aarav, Shivansh, Rudra, and Shaurya the clerks on duty?
I understand the law disallows back shooting fleeing criminals, but I’m perfectly okay with it.
Gotta dissuade them somehow.
So just let them steal. Got it. Some of the people on here are really no better than the thieves.
If the facts are that she is prosecuting the good guy, then she is no better than the thieves.
“...but warned that people “should expect to be shot” if they target stores..”
“But then of course I’ll indict the good guy’s ass.”
FU lady.
If that’s not an open invitation to jury nullification, I don’t know what is.
If you threaten someone’s life and livelihood: THEY WILL GET UPSET.
When people are upset and emotional they don’t always think clearly. But, if they have a firearm, they may be able to aim clearly and accurately. YOU JUST MIGHT GET YOUR [DERRIERE] KILLED.
Anybody who sees “no justification” for shooting a fleeing felon is a menace to society.
If only.
Long past time.
AMF!!
Right now, while there is still some supposed law & order in place...you don’t shoot someone running away.
Once law & order have completely dissolved...all bets are off.
Agreed.
When Trump said ‘when the looting starts, the shooting starts’ it was as if he had machine-gunned 100 nursing home residents in their wheelchairs.
It was a statement of fact. Still is.
?? Except she is charging the guy who GOT robbed.
Too bad he did not have a bazooka.
