Minimum-wage workers in 22 states are going to see more money in their paychecks in the new year.
Those increases will affect an estimated 9.9 million workers, according to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), which estimates that those bumped wages will add up to an additional $6.95 billion in pay.

Minimum wage should be raised to $1 billion/hour.
“ Honest question. Article recently said roughly 50% of illegals are still on welfare and related benefits after one year in the U.S.”
*************************************************************
Even the ones on welfare will mostly be doing some kind of under-the-table work for low wages or will be working under someone else’s SSN & ID.
That’s true, and if minimum wages exist at all they should exempt teens who badly need the work experience from that first job.
Good point. I forgot many entitlement mooches deal drugs or engage in part time prostitution. Or robbery.
Keepin’ busy.
Denis Waitley (former Blue Angels pilot and author of The Psychology of Winning) said his favorite teaser for a daytime TV live audience show was “Today, mothers who turn tricks at home in the afternoon. Should they tell their children?”
Lots of folks have a crappy old business model whereby they pay nearly nothing to employees. It works for kids living at home, illegal s, or retired folks leeching off social security and medicate.
That “job” is nothing more than the owner sucking the life out of the system.
If your shiiity little business can’t pay enough for a person to physically get to your location, eat a meal, and get back home, with something else for living accomodations and basic needs, then it really isn’t a “job” is it?
Entry Level jobs needing 3 years experience or a College Degree, that pay $12 an hour aren’t really jobs when rent on the area is $1000 for a studio, or$800 for a single bedroom in a house share.
Many Biz Owners won’t train anybody, but only take on folks that already have a skill set.
The whole thing is broken.
Good jobs off-shored. Illegals taking starter, and better jobs, as well as low-rate housing. Inflation crushing savers. And now, good starter places and jobs in the military are only available for Canon Fodder in never-ending wRs
Glad I won’t be around for too much longer.
Let it all burn.
FALSE.
TRUE: Minimum wage workers will get either a wage increase or a pink slip.
Screw jobs, the government should just nationalize EVERYTHING and pay everyone one million dollars a year /s
I’ve been trying to help a 26 year old grandson of a renter. I’ve been paying him $9 an hour. Problem is, I must work with him as he’ll do the stupidest things I’ve ever seen*. He seems okay, but there are obvious problems with is attention span and intelligence. Because of the downsides, nine bucks is almost too much. He’d never be hired for much. I’ve tried to teach him a skill he can use but it’s easier to teach a chimp to play chess.
* Just to pick one that could have been horrible, I showed him how to use a chainsaw. He laid the cutting bar across his foot, held down the gas switch and was about to pull the cord. If I hadn’t seen it and yelled he might have cut his foot in half.
These increases were passed by a vote of the people or their representatives in state legislatures.
Dumbest way of framing this story, but they just keep on doing it. They’re not getting raises, they’re losing their jobs.
The good news is robots won’t spit in your food.
Based on what just happened in Cali, a lot will get a 100% reduction.
Inflation goes up 5%, and wages go up 5.1%, which raises prices another 5% but is working at negative figures when it does. The people who get the raises don’t get the profit of the sales, they are paying for it faster than they can make it or even get it paid for. And they are constantly working at almost half of what they make to break even.

Look for the long delayed replacement of said workers with robots. For one example, burger-making robots were initially break-even at a minimum wage of $10/hour over half a decade back. There will now be too much wage expense pressure for the major chains to ignore it.
Burger making robots are a thing and this will massively accelerate their adoption. They also are faster than humans, so it will take less time to get your Big Mac.

Unfortunately
A few hundred employed by idiots will get a raise, THOUSANDS will get a PINK SLIP!
