A large number of Israeli citizens are stocking up on firearms and ammunition in the aftermath of the Hamas Oct. 7 attacks, The New York Times reported on Friday.
Hamas killed over 1,200 civilians and kidnapped hundreds of others as part of a mass terrorist attack against Israel on Oct. 7. Hundreds of thousands of Israelis who previously did not own weapons are now buying up firearms to protect themselves against possible future attacks, according to the Times.
“God forbid, if something similar happens here, I want to know that I have a firearm,” Zvika Arran, an Israeli citizen living near the West Bank, told the Times. Arran said he was hesitant to purchase a firearm, but felt it was necessary.
Roughly 150,000 Israeli citizens owned gun licenses in 2021, but following Oct. 7, 256,000 new gun applications have been submitted for approval, according to the Times. Israel approved 13,000 gun licenses in 2022 and approved 23,000 as of Oct. 7.
The country approved 26,000 licenses in the past eight weeks along with 44,000 “conditional approval” licenses, according to the Times.
Officials in Israel’s current government have advocated for expanded gun ownership among the civilian population, according to the Times.
“Until Oct. 7, the private weapons policy in Israel was fairly well-balanced,” former Director-General of Israel’s National Security Ministry told the Times. “Then, the authentic fears of many Israelis changed in a single day.”
Citizens may qualify for gun ownership depending on age, location and military service or experience, according to the Times. New regulations were issued in January of this year that expanded the number of Israelis eligible for qualification.

Absurdity! Met the criteria? Stoopid gun laws cost many lives and will continue to if the powers that be don't pull their collective heads out. The onerous Israeli gun laws make california look like a free for all anything goes gun show. "NEVER AGAIN!" Doesn't mean much if you don't allow folks to defend themsleves unless they "meet the criteria". Eligible, criteria, may qualify...... Much dumbassery! But I did read they raised the "allowable" number rounds you "may" be "allowed" to have from 50 to 100. All acountable for of course. WTAH?
I wonder if israel will go after the guns once the dust settles? They were pretty anti guns for citizens before the attack. Hopefully th3y have smartened up and Will allow the citizens to arm up to defend themselves in the future!
[[”meet the criteria”.]]
Let’s see- Are they Jewish? Check!
Are they Hated by Muslims who want to see them eradicated? Check!
Does much of the world hate them too jusy because they are God’s chosen people? Check!
CRITERIA MET!
I went to a pistol range in Nashville last month and asked if they had seen an increase in Jewish clientele taking intro lessons, and they said “absolutely, yes.”
Life, liberty and its necessary corollary,s the right to defend your life.
Gang force, anti-life collective force, GOVERNMENT force v the innocent individual.
No doubt they will. Governments world wide DO NOT trust the people.
It’s the Communist education and Communist media.
Israeli Leftists dominate Israel’s institutions the way wokesters dominate American ones, but the Israeli Left is disappearing as a voting force. Their only hope is a rigid oligarchy, and gun confiscation. It’s not going to work because today’s Israelis, unlike today’s Americans, have paid in blood for freedom.
Had a dozen or so festival goers been armed, once they recognized that the parachuters where landing and attacking them, would, have used the remaining parachuters as target practice as they floated helplessly to the ground!
I hate to say it, but Israel’s policies were directly responsible for the large number of casualties. Hopefully this will never happen again, and citizens will be armed to the teeth and able to,defend th3mselves and others.
They sure have paid a very heavy price for their governments ignorant leftist policies on gun control. Hopefully a leader of the people will stand up and say, and truly mean, the following “NEVER AGAIN”. Gun control needs to be a thing of the past
But just thinking about it now, we too have paid a very heavy price in blood for asinine leftist gun Control that have created gun free zones that are the favorite e target of cowardly criminal thugs- the difference though is that the left are still so powerful (they control all the power, ie cops, courts, judges, fbi, msm, blm, antifa etc etc etc) that they can still suppr3ss citizens with threats of lengthy prison sentences if they don’t abide by the ever increasing and restricting gun laws. Sadly, there aren’t enough people willing to collectively take,a stand and say “NEVER AGAIN” when criminal maggots shoot up unarmed unprotected citizens.
Let’s at least hope Israel will have enough who say that that the ruling class won’t dare say otherwise.
Yup! There aren’t that many to “rescue” from those pesky commoners. “NEVER AGAIN!” doesn’t seem to strike home. Lunacy.
We'll just have to avoid "gun-free" zones. You can get your shopping delivered to your house through Walmart or Amazon. And you can do curbside pickup at your local grocery store.
So you can minimize the time you're going to places where you are not permitted to carry.
Instead of going around supporting gay rights in foreign countries America should be promoting gun ownership.
Duh . . . What do they need guns for with Joe Biden protecting them?
Gun laws or no gun laws, a lot of Israelis are going to keep guns from now on, if they have to they will seek them on the black market and keep them secret, but many will refuse to be unarmed again, no matter how the political winds blow in the future.
I doubt the drugged-out psytrance revelers would have armed themselves.
Somebody still doesn't get it.
Stereotype much?
9+ million population and now 250,000 citizens legally permitted to have weapons. Way too short a number.
Israel should order them by the C-17 load, with ammo, and offer them out everyone who pays taxes.
Let's say also set up a kydex holster shop in Israel.
