Newly-confident Putin vows victory in Ukraine

Moscow (AFP) – President Vladimir Putin voiced renewed confidence Thursday in Russia's offensive in Ukraine, as he staged a marathon press conference a week after announcing plans to stay in the Kremlin until at least 2030.

Looking relaxed and bolstered by Kyiv's recent struggles on the battlefield, the 71-year-old Russian leader brushed off nearly two years of Western sanctions and reaffirmed his maximalist goals in Ukraine.

"There will be peace when we achieve our goals," Putin said, speaking at his first end-of-year press conference since Russia sent troops into Ukraine in February 2022.

"They are not changing. I will remind you what we talked about: the de-nazification and de-militarisation of Ukraine, and its neutral status," Putin said, adding that Russian forces were "improving their position on almost the entire line of contact".

Putin's nationally televised appearance came at one of the lowest points for Ukraine of the entire campaign.

Its summer counteroffensive petered out without making much progress and its Western support is fraying due to growing fatigue amid some US lawmakers in Washington and frictions within the European Union.

Putin appeared to point to these, stressing that nearly two years of Western sanctions and international isolation had done little to hurt Russia's economy or morale.

"There is enough for us not only to feel confident, but to move forward," Putin said.

“he staged a marathon press conference”

Compare that to the dementia patient that is supposedly in charge here.

Do you know what marathon press conference is? People do not call to say praises.
Not to mention that half of the questions like this are trolls.

He can’t win without doing another mass mobilization, the prison-convict troops aren’t doing it

How soon after he gets re-elected in his pre-rigged election next March do you think he’ll announce the mobilization?

5 minutes?

From day 1, I considered Russia to be the aggressor. She invaded a sovereign Ukraine based on a flimsy argument that shrieks of “from the river to the sea.” Russia is the Bad Guy.

At the same time, my support for Ukraine ends there. I wish her well in the defense of her borders. I don’t want one dime from the US Treasury going to any foreign government. Indeed, nowhere in the Constitution is there an enumerated power granted to Congress or the Executive to draw currency from the Treasury to be sent to a foreign government.

Everything else, is Bread and Circuses. The Putin supporters are the worst IMHO; watching alleged conservatives transition to puppets as they slobber all over this commie thug who has the Cross in his hand but the morality of the Serpent in his heart is astounding.

The only good thing to come of this war is insight into how malleable are some conservatives in this post-Covid world. They used to have convictions. Now they’re like Haley or Christie supporters.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, he can have Cleveland.

Today's "news" as represented in a couple of morning posts is quite instructive.

One reads a sort of "yes" and "no" all depending on which "news" is accepted by a poster as credible.

One reads that Putin was both "newly confident" and suffered "humiliation" for the same event.

" President Vladimir Putin talked up Russia's offensive in Ukraine Thursday as he staged a marathon press conference a week after saying he plans to stay in the Kremlin until at least 2030."

Newly-confident Putin vows victory in Ukraine France 24, 14 December 2023

"Vladimir Putin found himself facing unexpected challenges at his annual end-of-year press conference, as questions about the perceived 'reality' of Russia were prominently displayed on screens throughout the venue. "

Humiliation for Putin as his own citizens turn on him during annual press conference Express UK, 14 December 2023

Mr. Robinson observed that people "have a difference of opinion whether or not the US government should be involved in a controversial foreign war where we were not attacked."

This is being proven true in the world press, as it is well in evidence here on this forum.

Smart, real smart!

He's already winning.

Overall, we rate France24 on the left side of Least Biased based on story selection that minimally favors the left. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact check record.

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/daily-express/

Overall, we rate the Daily Express Right Biased based on editorial content and Mixed for factual reporting due to publishing conspiracies & pseudoscience and several failed fact checks.

Daily Express probably hews pretty closely to the Chatham House line. Chatham House is the UK counterpart to the Council on Foreign Affairs in New York.

Excellent observations with sourced citations.

It seems that precious little "new" is not some version of someone's "advocacy journalism" these days. The non-objective seems, ironically, today's objective standard.
