New Mexico Governor Pushing Ban on AR-15s, Other Semiautomatics

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) is pushing a ban on AR-15s and other semiautomatic rifles in an upcoming 30-day legislative session in her state.

The Santa Fe Reporter noted Grisham wants to do what Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) unsuccessfully attempted at the federal level. Heinrich, together with Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), put forward the Gas-Operated Semiautomatic Firearms Exclusion Act (GOSAFE), and it went nowhere.

Breitbart News reported the focus on the AR-15’s gas operation came some 64 years after the gun was designed to use spent gas from a shell casing to reset the bolt group and ready the gun for the next round. The rifle is still just a semiautomatic, firing one round per trigger pull just like a Glock or Smith & Wesson handgun, but the gas from a spent shell casing replaces recoil in working the action.

Grisham believes New Mexico lawmakers will be more open to banning an entire category of firearms — by highlighting gas operation, etc. — than Heinrich and Kelly’s federal colleagues were.

Question: Why do we need AR15s?
Answer: Because treasonous Democrats and fools like her are encouraging internal criminality, and allowing non-vetted criminal foreign nationals and home invasion gangs from third world undesirable countries into our country to help drug cartels gain an even bigger foothold. We need a national deputized posse of lawful citizens and a bounty put on removing these threats as they did in the 1800s.

Rifles and a lot of shotguns, anyway.

Then they’d tackle the dangers of recoil and recoil operated guns.

Semi-auto rifles have been on the market since 1903. Yes 1903! Yet it was only when the mental institutions were closed down in the 1970s that mass murder really took off.

And for decades the anti-gun radicals claimed they ONLY wanted to register and ban HANDGUNS! “Rifles will not be affected!”
In 1981 Actress Lee Grant, on Good Morning America stood up, poked holes in the air with her finger and yelled....”THE NRA IS A RIFLE ORGANIZATION! THEY SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR HANDGUNS AND THEY CAN KEEP THEIR RIFLES!”

Then in 1985 came the first calls to ban semi-auto rifles. They have never let up on their calls for any type of gun bans.

The sheep eating coyotes of New Mexico will breathe a sigh of relief. The sheep raisers of New Mexico will have to go back to Compound 10-80 poison for coyote control.

What has happened to my home state? Oh yea, remember the fifty year old bumper sticker for Colorado”

“DON’T CALIFORNICATE COLORADO!”

Well, it has been. Now they are Californicating New Mexico and eyeing other states!

***kelly-giffords***

And Giffords was shot with a 9 mm handgun by a former follower of hers. A crazy one at that who would have been in a mental institution if those institutions had not been closed down in the 1970s.

In the late 50’s the same stickers could be seen in the 4-Corners suitably edited for New Mexico, Utah and Arizona.

I am fed up with the gun grabbing lefties! The right to defend ourselves is given to us by God Himself and it’s not something that can just be taken away from us all because of nutcases in Nashville, Orlando or wherever else!

Not constitutional, and the sheriffs won’t enforce it.

Semi-auto rifles have been on the market since 1903. Yes 1903!

Actually not quite true.

Lewis & Clark's 1803 expedition carried a Girandoni Air Rifle that was semi-automatic. It used either a .46 or .51 caliber ball and had a magazine that held 20 rounds. It was lethal out to 125 to 150 yards, and each air reservoir could fire ~30 times before it had to be replaced with a fresh one or refilled.

It was in service from 1780 to 1816, so before the 2nd Amendment was even thought about.

And I guess you could say it was 'gas-operated'. Air is a gas, right?

State or US. But, constitution? They don’t care about no steenkin’ constitution. Merely bankrupt the opposition in endless court hearings.

Hell, the food isn’t isn’t even that great anymore.

I’ve been visiting Santa Fe since 1985. My parents and older relatives who lived there are all dead now, my brothers have gone native, and I’m not inclined to go there ever again.

I used to want to live there and do nothing except paint the landscape. It’s still a beautiful place, but that isn’t enough to make up for the bad stuff anymore.

The Rats keep trying to violate the Constitution. There needs to be a lawsuit against these state governments for denial of rights under the color of law.

Why do we need AR15s?

We don't. We need M-16s, but the Feds are violating the Constitution and it's outrageously hard to get them. So we "settle" for AR-15s.

Which is somewhat of a misnomer ... originally the ARmailte-10 and the ARmalite-15 were both select fire ... Dad carried a CAR-15 for a time in SE Asia. I asked. Yes, he recalled it having a 3-position happy switch.

If you recall, branDUHn reminded us those “rights” aren’t absolute. Any kickback expected if one were to “infringe” on, oh say, the 13th or 19th?
