No vaccine is 100% effective in all recipients. The scientific community knows this.
Pfizer (and the other vaccine manufacturers) all said that their vaccines were effective at preventing serious disease and death.
Professional antivaxxers tell people that if vaccines are not 100% effective at preventing disease, they aren’t “real” vaccines. This is not a scientific statement. No vaccine expert, ever, said that vaccines prevent 100% of disease.
The increase in Covid deaths in 2021 was because the Biden administration dropped the social distancing, mask, and other mandates before a majority of the population was vaccinated. Available vaccines were prioritized to the most vulnerable groups and people in certain professions, such as health care workers. The rest of us had to wait. And even when everyone was allowed to get vaccinated, there were not enough supplies to go around. So, it took a while.
In 2020, there were 350,831 deaths from Covid. In 2021, there were 416,893 deaths and in 2022, there were 244,986 deaths. In the last year, according to my personal spreadsheet (where I have been recording death and case data since early 2020), there have been 78,615 Covid deaths. The majority of the population has been vaccinated, and deaths have dropped as a result.
I guess the “stated goal” of ending the pandemic is another professional antivaxxer straw man. No vaccine producer ever made that claim.
The mRNA vaccines were 95% effective against Pfizer and Moderna losing money. That’s about it.
