An American warship and multiple commercial ships came under attack Sunday in the Red Sea, the Pentagon said, potentially marking a major escalation in a series of maritime attacks in the Mideast linked to the Israel-Hamas war.
“We’re aware of reports regarding attacks on the USS Carney and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and will provide information as it becomes available,” the Pentagon said.
The British military earlier said there had been a suspected drone attack and explosions in the Red Sea, without elaborating.

Our Commander in Chief is showing us all how its done.
Whenever he sees a camel driver he immediately turns around and bends over. Brilliant !( /sarc.)
>> How would the terrorists know where our ships are? <<
Why wouldn’t they??

And, of course, we'll send them another five billion or so to fix any hard feelings..
One can sit on the deck of a luxury hotel on the shore of the Strait of Hormuz and watch the boats go by.
The Houthis would make a wonderful target. Knocking the crap out of them would be a good start.
Just a matter of time until shipping companies will be hiring armed gunboats to escort them through there, with A3 capability and heavy enough direct fire weapons to keep all but the most advanced weapons and pirates at bay while they traverse it.
About the only thing they can do and still be allowed into most ports, almost all countries frown upon any form of weapons on transport ships, even for self defense in proven dangerous waters.
Bet there would be good money in armed escorting too now that I think of it.
No quarter should be given to pirates at sea. No rules, no mercy, no prisoners. This should include the home port and operating base of any pirate attack or activity.
....”though we don’t”..................and it’s for sure whoever “they” are they were not elected!
In effect, the office of the Presidency is vacant.
.....correct, thankfully I did not ever have the dishonor, like millions of others, of meeting McNamara, Rusk or Johnson.
Then again perhaps it is just that pirates and terrorists have discovered the wonderful world of anti-shipping drones. It is not yet talked about much, but the future of marine warfare and power has changed as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
You would think the navy would turn off their location beacon while in the area.
Well; unless they Navy now has a functioning cloaking device, mere eyeballs can locate the ships in that narrow width of water.
Here is a recent article regarding the immediate response of our ship to the attack.
” 3 commercial ships hit by missiles in Houthi attack in Red Sea, US warship downs 3 drones

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates —”
“Ballistic missiles fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels struck three commercial ships Sunday in the Red Sea, while a U.S. warship shot down three drones in self-defense during the hourslong assault, the U.S. military said. The Iranian-backed Houthis claimed two of the attacks. The strikes marked an escalation in a series of maritime attacks in the Mideast linked to the Israel-Hamas war, as multiple vessels found themselves in the crosshairs of a single Houthi assault for the first time in the conflict. The U.S. vowed to “consider all appropriate responses” in the wake of the attack, specifically calling out Iran, after tensions have been high for years now over Tehran’s rapidly advancing nuclear program.
“These attacks represent a direct threat to international commerce and maritime security,” the U.S. military’s Central Command said in a statement. “They have jeopardized the lives of international crews representing multiple countries around the world.”
As part of immediate response, US is now in talks with allies explained in link below.

“WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House said Monday that the U.S. may establish a naval task force to escort commercial ships in the Red Sea, a day after three vessels were struck by missiles fired by Iranian-back Houthis in Yemen.
National security adviser Jake Sullivan said the U.S. has been in active conversations with allies about setting up the escorts though nothing is finalized, describing it as a “natural” response to that sort of incident.”
Biden won’t admit it was an act of war.
