Come to AZ. I’m in district 2, which goes from a conservative, semi-rural area SW of Phoenix up to the northern border of the state, which includes a massive reservation that reliably votes Democrat. It happens in every state, FFS.
The new Wisconsin supreme court will find that districts must be contiguous.
I live in Wisconsin. It is crazy here how the city/town/village boundaries are defined. The border between my city and the city to the north follows along one street. But the actual border zigs and zags between houses on the north side of the street. Like the first two houses are in my city, the next three in the other city, then every other for the next ten, and so on. This goes on for a couple miles.
There are a few houses that get completely surrounded by the other city. And if the political boundary follows the city lines, you end up with these islands all over. It gets quite silly, but how do you reconcile a requirement to be contiguous and also to follow city boundaries?

Exactly...its minority vote suppression when Republicans do it like here in NC.

If it will end the courts judging legislative districts, I would favor a constitutional amendment limiting the number of sides, excluding natural state boundaries and rivers, in exchange for otherwise denying courts the power to usurp the prerogatives of the legislature.

That’s how the Uniparty gets dumbbells like Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas-D) elected and re-elected.
I would wager that every state with a constitution or laws requiring contiguous districts formed with borders based on existing political and natural borders is in violation for the purpose of creating minority districts and for stacking the deck for political parties.
Politicians make laws to create a record of their false integrity and to keep the masses in line.
Laws are less than a speed bump in the road to them and they refuse to hold themselves accountable.
Look no further than the open borders that are a violation of the constitution and multiple laws.
How many republicans are fighting Biden over the democrats open borders?
