On Oct. 19, Ukrainian marines motored across the Dnipro River and, in a series of infantry actions in and around the settlement of Krynky, secured a bridgehead on the otherwise Russian-occupied left bank of the river.
Winning, and holding, a bridgehead is a first step for Ukraine’s southern command as it tries to sustain the country’s southern counteroffensive—which kicked off in June but has idled in recent weeks—and set conditions for a possible push deeper into Russian-held southern Kherson Oblast. The gateway to occupied Crimea.
The Kremlin knows it. And we now have seen the first thin evidence in several weeks that Russian motor-rifle regiments in southern Kherson have attempted an armored counterattack on the increasingly dug-in Ukrainian marines.
That evidence isn’t good news for the Russians. Sometime apparently last week, Ukrainian drones knocked out a Russian T-62 tank just a couple of miles east of Krynky.
And not just any T-62. An upgraded Obr. 2022 version of the 1960s-vintage tank. As Russian tank losses in Ukraine exceeded a thousand last year, the Kremlin pulled out of storage hundreds of the 41-ton, four-person tanks.

Tanks, any tank, is a death trap
————
True, one look at the wonder weapon welfare Leopards, both versions have just about been wiped out, along with US Strykers, Bradley’s, etc….the same fate awaits our M1 tanks……and F16’s…..as for the glorious Ukie offensive of June 4th, a bloodbath for the Ukies….conservative estimates are 60,000 plus KIA…..
That said, Marioupol, Artymovsk ( Bakmut) and now Aviidivka all clobbered by Vlad…..pulling up the Ukie track record shows where they are going.
Vlad needs to go for Unconditional Surrender, the only way Peace can be insured…..as the failed Minsk accords showed, any agreements with the West can not be trusted. The Minsk’s accords were signed in 2014 only to buy time for NATO to arm the Ukies- as admitted by EU leaders ( liars).
Thank goodness no Ukrainian tank has ever bit the dust.
As a weapon of war, tanks are obsolete and nearly useless.
They can be destroyed at will by either side.
Putting men in tanks is a suicide mission.
Only remote controlled tanks should be on the battlefield, if at all.........................
We have an old Sherman tank in front of the VFW hall they can have....................
With drones AI and directed energy weapons there really is a terminator future.
As with the vloggers -- so many uploading daily Ukraine videos from these United States, as well as such "frontline" nations as Switzerland and Azerbaijan -- Forbes' article is by a a journalist, author and filmmaker based in Columbia, South Carolina. One notes that he cites a Ukrainian media source in some articles: censor.net. So, second-hand retelling is the name of the game.
We offered us another article just the other day:
""Ukrainian military leaders underestimated the Russians’ determination to hold territory they'd captured, Melynk said in a wide-ranging interview with Censor. The same leaders changed units’ organization and equipment at the last minute, wrecking their cohesion, Melynk claimed. Ukrainian aviation didn't show up to support the ground troops, he added."South Carolina reporting....That article ends with: " 'The whole plan of the big counteroffensive was based on simple things: a Muscovite sees a Bradley, a Leopard—and runs away,' Melynk said. That of course didn't happen. It took the 47th Brigade and other counteroffensive units five months, and many casualties—including Melynk—to advance 10 or a dozen miles along several axes."
After Losing a Leg, One Ukrainian Officer Still Loves His M-2 Vehicle. Forbes, Nov 18, 2023
By the way, censor.net in some browsers can be read in English. So even a South Carolinian can find material to re-tell.
Reading between the lines, Russia has been so unconcerned about this “bridgehead” that it took them several weeks to contest it with a “counterattack.” Counterattack with one tank? I don’t think this is a tipping point in the war, much as Forbes would like it to be.

**The Ukrainian war is the first major Drone War.**
If there aren’t any drone tanks yet. There probably will be soon.
As near as I can figger...
Forbes editor: Give me a thousand words to string along the Ukraine is winning crowd.
Forbes writer: The best I can do is “an old Russian tank was damaged… maybe”.
I am not sure what new piece of information this article brings. Virtually every Russian tank destroyed in The Ukraine has been by a drone. The age of the tank has no relevance to this.
My only question, is why has neither side not used drones to attack the other sides drones. Fly a small drone up above the larger surveillance drone and drop a grenade on it.
Mike and Geoff Howe of Howe & Howe, Waterboro, Maine have been building unmanned tank prototypes for military and non military use since 2001. They were bought by Textron Systems in 2018.
Of course the US Military is way behind in their thinking. I suspect the Russian/Ukraine has changed thinking.
The Army Can’t Figure Out What To Do With the Ripsaw “Tank”
The speedy little vehicle seems useful, but for what?

Grasping at straws as your ship of cabal lies sinks to the depths of hell. This is going to be fun to watch.
The actual vocabulary of the Forbes writer:
"...apparently" allied with "It's possible" and kin to "isn't entirely clear."Journalism today. Maybe, Might be. Could be. Perhaps.A single paragraph illustrates the "wiggle."
"The T-62 those Ukrainian drones struck near Krynky probably was just a mile or two, or even closer, to the nearest Ukrainian position. It may have attempted a direct attack on the Krynky bridgehead, perhaps as part of a larger combined-arms force."
I don’t know why the Vindman twins, Useless and Worthless, aren’t back helping their countrymen. Instead, one is in Virginia running for congress. Those little liars.
First hand information is tough in this war. As I recall, it is a very dangerous war for reporters.
Care to document where this reporter is, "working with third hand information?"
By way of comparison, ISW reports from Washington DC, while YouTube reports with third hand information post daily from the US, Switzerland, Azerbaijan and far from Ukraine. The RAND posts third had information from Santa Monica.
Both Russia and Ukraine had made firsthand reporting from anywhere near the front line almost impossible. Meanwhile, one watches daily first hand reporting from Gaza. So very different.
"As of 16 May 2023, at least 17 civilian journalists and media workers have been killed in the line of duty since the Russo-Ukrainian War began in 2014. Six have been Russian, four Ukrainian, one Italian, one American, one Lithuanian, one Irish and two French."We see firsthand reporting from Gaza on all the major channels, and almost no firsthand reporting from the Ukraine-Russia war. Hands down, Gaza is at the same time more deadly and more open and transparent.List of journalists killed during the Russo-Ukrainian War
Quite unlike the above, one reads Gaza is far more dangerous for journalists:
"As of November 20, CPJ’s preliminary investigations showed at least 50 journalists and media workers were among the more than 14,000 killed since the war began on October 7—with over 12,000 Palestinian deaths in Gaza and the West Bank and 1,200 deaths in Israel. The second-deadliest day for journalist deaths occurred on November 18, with five killed; the deadliest day of the war was its first day, October 7, with 6 journalists killed."
17 in nine years for the Ukraine-Russia war, and "over 50" in the last few weeks from Gaza.
Very few people on free republic support the US being involved in the war. I asked this question many months ago on here. It was at least nine to one against the war.
