Prosecutors say the Payette National Forest operation that ended in the shooting of a homeless man in a wheelchair was the escalation of years of frustrating dealings with a family who had camped too long on public land in Idaho.
Police body camera footage from May 19 showed two ordinary-looking men — dressed in plaid and jeans — approach the Roberts trailer near the forest’s West Face Trailhead. They knocked on the door and asked Timber Roberts for help jumpstarting their vehicle. Timber agrees and backs his truck up to their vehicle, bringing it within jumper-cable distance.
Unbeknownst to the Roberts family, at least 10 other federal and state law enforcement officers were waiting out of sight. When Timber exited his vehicle, the two men grabbed him and took him to the ground.
Timber screamed, calling for his older brother.
“Get off of me,” he yelled in the video. “Help! Help! Brooks! Brooks! Brooks!”
The next few seconds were chaotic. Brooks rushed out of the trailer, his hands pumping the wheels of the wheelchair he has to use because of a disability sustained while working. He drew a .22 revolver, according to court documents, and pointed it at the men.
“He’s got a gun,” an officer shouted.
Shots rang out, all from the guns of undercover U.S. Forest Service officers. The sound of about about a dozen gunshots can be heard in the video — none from Brooks. Documents filed by his lawyers said he threw his gun out of reach before the officers fired their first shot.
“I’m sorry,” Brooks said. “I thought my brother was being attacked. You didn’t give me a chance to put the gun down. ... I didn’t know you guys were cops.”

This country would be better off with no police at all. I’d rather depend on old guys in wheelchairs, with guns, who come when we call for help and who don’t shoot randomly at strangers.
The law enforcement criminals dressed like civilians and, without announcing they were law enforcement or showing of official ID, they attack a man and then are surprised when he and his family fights back.
Every one of those law enforcement officers is guilty of committing a crime.
Yeah, thats the ticket! Get rid of all the cops and everything will be fine and all crime will magically disappear. Now, who else was it that said that? Let me think....
Assault with a deadly weapon, assault with intent to kill, reckless endangerment ...
Police wear uniforms so they can be readily identified as police.
Jackbooted thugs don’t wear uniforms, so they can KILL KILL KILL ... because they get a peculiar physical “charge” out of it. Filthy perverts ...
It’s heart breaking.
I agree with you.
Don’t confuse local police with Feds. Local police depts try to keep the psychos off the force. The Federal agencies seek them.
Armed Forrest Service goons...
Guaranteed promotions all around...
Guy in wheelchair will get 15 years for insurrection...
“Yeah, thats the ticket! Get rid of all the cops and everything will be fine and all crime will magically disappear. Now, who else was it that said that? Let me think....”
You or your loved ones might be next. Would that be just fine?
We are at a tipping point where we are actually better off being allowed to personally defend ourselves. They are no longer an asset, they are in the way, preventing self defense, and forcing us to be helpless victims because they do not allow us to defend ourselves.
So yes, we are at the point we would be better off without them. They have done absolutely nothing to curb the chaos.
“Local police depts try to keep the psychos off the force.”
This has not at all been my extensive personal experience.
Many policing problems would be solved by three things.
Have the police show up in day light hours and properly identify themselves.
Institute insensitivity training, before they go on duty the officers must chant three times, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will not harm me".
Get rid of CAF and qualified immunity as they stand.
Ruby Ridge, the slaying of the old man that threatened Joe, Janis Reno’s massacre of the religious sect, this case; never a problem for the feds, in the Sicialist States of America.
“This has not at all been my extensive personal experience.”
Or mine.
I am trying to understand why the Forestry Service needs a plain clothes division. Do they pose as hikers to try to catch criminals in the woods, or are they afraid that grizzly bears can recognize them if they wear uniforms? This is bizarre.
The Green Gestapo.
Sounds like a recipe to have this country become Somalia. Anarchy and unlimited vigilantism aren't a real good way to run things. How bout we vote out the idiots hiring bad cops and making bad law, hold cops that violate their oath accountable, and let people defend themselves from criminals? That sounds better to me than getting rid of all the police.
Nice typo, but combining the Sicilian Mob (Cosa Nostra) with socialist feds, you might be on to something.
This is what happens when every government agency fancies itself as a police force. At this point, all of them from the IRS right on down to your local school district, have their own enforcement divisions and SWAT teams.
If policing were left to trained and uniformed police, and not to every self-important bureaucracy, I think a lot less of this would happen. As it is these weekend warrior “cops” are just itching to get in a little action.
None of these agencies should be empowered to act like law enforcement officers.
Its odd that you had no criticism reserved for the two law enforcement members who attacked the man without identifying their status as police officers.
