Speaker Mike Johnson said that he would like to use billions in seized Russian assets to pay for President Biden’s Ukraine aid request.
Mr. Johnson’s pitch comes as the top House Republican already diverted from Mr. Biden’s $106 billion request by splitting Israel aid from the larger package that included aid spending for the Jewish state, Ukraine, Taiwan and spending on the U.S.-Mexico border to bolster the president’s catch and release policies.
House Republicans have increasingly shifted their stance on providing more aid to Ukraine, arguing that no more taxpayer dollars should flow to the war-beleaguered country until the Biden administration offers clear-cut objectives for the conflict.
Mr. Johnson of Louisiana told the New York Post that he’s interested in using the more than $300 billion in Russian assets seized after fighting began in the region to fund future Ukraine aid.
“It would be pure poetry to fund the Ukrainian war effort with Russian assets,” Mr. Johnson said. “As you can imagine, that idea has been met with great enthusiasm on the Republican side. I suspect it will be with our colleagues on the other side as well. It’s an eminently responsible thing for us to do.”

That’s really idiotic, coming from an allegedly conservative Canadian who watched your own government freeze and seize the financial assets of its own citizens who dared to object to being Guinea pigs for the pharmaceutical industry during the COVID debacle.

If it’s legal to use the seized billions for American interests, then do that.
If it’s not, then use it to help Ukraine rebuild AFTER Zelensky and his criminal pals are out. Use it to clean up the sex trafficking, the bio-labs, the human organ farming, and the money-laundering operations.
Our new Speaker Clown is ignoring the needs of Americans by believing the Ukraine needs mure money. He will follow in the footsteps of McCarthy in short order.

It’s done to Americans every day. Think about something as small as NPR. American taxpayer dollars are given to a network to spew anti-American propaganda.
We need to make sure he keeps the speakership in 2024. He does no good if the Democrats control the House.
The US does lots of things other countries view as "illegal" and we have more assets scattered around the world than anyone. There is no world wide consensus that Russian actions are illegal.
No one died and put us in charge of the world. This is a really bad idea.

While I like the idea of the poetic justice and apparent “fairness” of doing so, I must counsel caution as to precedent setting and the US’s exposure to tit for tat retaliation by others not so disposed to our Western view of the war there. Is there precedent or are we setting up for having OUR assets seized and spent by others as well?
Not cowardly but there is some thinking that must go into this, lest we find ourselves slip sliding into WW3 by doing the “right things”. Did not Japan attack us at Pearl Harbor after an oil embargo that would have crippled them if they stayed peaceful?
