A majority of American adults would not be willing to serve in the military were the U.S. to enter into a major war, recent polling has found, while public confidence in the armed forces appears to be waning.
The figures come as all branches of the armed forces have in recent years struggled to meet their recruitment targets, suggesting a growing apathy towards a career of military service. In 2023, the Army and Air Force fell short of their respective goals by around 10,000 recruits, while the Navy was under by 6,000. Since 1987, the number of active-duty personnel has fallen by 39 percent.
Experts say that such shortfalls are worrisome in an increasingly volatile global picture with American leadership unsure when it will next have to bring its full military force to bear.
"We have strike groups, aircraft carriers with a Marine Expeditionary Unit outside Israel now," Justin Henderson, a former transport operator for the U.S. Marines turned military recruiter, told Newsweek. "We're funding two wars, but we're actually boots on the ground, drones above Gaza. So we're already involved in there—and we're not sure what's happening in Taiwan. So this is a very tumultuous time for us, because we don't know what's going to happen."

According to the link below, there are roughly 750 US foreign military bases, located in 80 nations. So there are plenty of places US blood and treasure can be wasted for no good reason.

My eldest son has a shepherd’s spirit. He’s built for war, smart, speaks several languages, and is an excellent marksman. Six feet tall, broad back, super strong, he can enclose my fist in his hand with room to spare.
He was considering going into the military when Trump was up for re-election. I said wait until November. Biden won.
That ended any thoughts he had about joining the military.
How about we start in the universities...

I advised all three of my kids to ditch military service. I served in the Army my brother in the Airforce. Never would I serve again or advise anyone to serve. Leadership is not to be trusted a rotten woke mess. Bush Clinton Bush Obama destroyed our military. Each used the Work of Ronaldas Magnas to dissipate the military. Ronnie built it so we wouldn’t need to use it. The others saw it as a magnificent play thing.

In my lifetime we've gone from being the land of the free and the home of the brave (where my parents were so proud of their US citizenship they had their naturalization certificates framed) to the land of the flea and home of the knave, cowed into submission by a corrupt, incompetent and depraved government.

More to the point, why would I, as a potential recruit, have any reason to join the military at this time? Considering the way you treat soldiers as your own personal property that can be used in any way you dream of, I can see no redeeming virtue in joining today’s military.
I will continue to defend those who deserve it. The left can jump into a ravine and die for all I care anymore.
