Commentators often draw parallels between Taiwan and Ukraine, as both countries are western-aligned democracies facing asymmetrical threats from hostile (and nuclear-armed) superpowers. Just as Russia believes that it is entitled to Ukrainian land, so, too, does China believe that it has the right to annex Taiwan.
Russia expected to easily subjugate Ukraine, but failed to do so... this outcome is far better than most had expected at the beginning of the invasion — which has inspired the Taiwanese.
“We learned that it’s not impossible to defend our country when facing one of the largest military forces in the world,” said Connie Chang ...
It’s somewhat irrelevant that Ukraine has been unable to expel Russia — simply drawing out the war should be enough to make Beijing think twice about getting into a similar quagmire. “China wants to make sure that this stays a short war, as the longer it lasts, the less likely there will be a victory,” said Taiwanese Deputy Foreign Minister Roy Chun Lee.
The Taiwanese have also noted how the Ukrainian military has destroyed Russian hardware by relying on smaller, highly mobile weapons that can’t be easily tracked and blown up. A classic example of this has been the American-made HIMARS rocket systems that Ukraine has used, with devastating success, to blast Russian tanks and ammunition depots.
Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu later confirmed that Taiwan is focusing on an “asymmetric strategy” that will rely on small, decentralized and mobile units that, as seen in Ukraine, are “very capable of keeping a large military at bay.” ...
Taiwanese officials and non-governmental players often stressed that Ukraine’s perseverance underlined the importance of international support and western solidarity. “It’s very easy for Taiwan to feel that it’s hopeless if we’re by ourselves. And it’s the same in Ukraine,” ...

There ya go again.
"Pootin stoopid. Z-Man Einstein."
As I have said before, those two brain cells of yours are serving you well.
As usual c_c forgets America has the same aimed at Russia and he doesn’t think that Russians might also consider that as a threat to their existence just as we do.
It is called MAD.
Taiwan needs to beef up their antiacraft capabilities as well.
Russia is not going to accept demographic genocide and will use nuclear weapons against any mass invasion from China. Unlike America's garbage leadership, Putin doesn't hate his own citizens with a white hot passion and will not rip open its own border to subjug are its legacy citizens.
Zeepers are genocidal morons.
It’s not even Russia’s nukes, they are left over from the USSR, which WAS a threat to us, and which the left adored.
I pooh-poohed them for years, but I know for a fact my mind was not keeping up with the technology for the last few years. I was probably stuck still thinking of them as U-Boats...:)
For a country that has limited areas to defend its own sealanes in, I understand the ones they make now are very good. Granted, they don’t have the endurance fuel-wise of a nuclear sub, but they have been able to make them far quieter and quite stealthy for less money.
Still a fan of nuclear, though!
I refuse to listen to a scivey Canauck suffering from menopause.
For Taiwan diesel-electric boats make perfect sense.
UK, France, and Israel all have nukes too, but none of theirs are aimed at America
that’s why we consider them friends
but Russia, China, and NK do have nukes aimed at America
that’s why we consider them enemies
(since you can’t understand that, fortunately, you’re not in charge)
Why not? Every idiot Zeeper ignores Russia's nuclear weapons every day. When you bring them up to a Zeeper idiot they often reply that Russia's nukes will not work like trained parrots.
I think everyone would agree Taiwan is going to be in an untenable position should the ChiComs invade, especially with our government as it is. They can expect no help from us. We already cannot afford it, we are so far in debt that every dollar spent is a dollar borrowed, with interest. (I just read where our interest payments alone this year will be nearly 700 billion dollars. Wow. That means we are broke.)
But that doesn’t mean they should not prepare (except to prepare to roll over as many Leftists and ChiCom sympathizers would like them to do) to defend themselves and make it as costly as possible.
Granted, to a totalitarian country with nearly 1.5 billion people whose lives mean absolutely nothing to the CCP except as a means to keep power, taking out a transport and losing 5,000 soldiers is no big deal to them, but still.
I am sure Taiwan is inspired by the idea of having Chinese troops occupying the eastern part of their country...lol.
Taiwan is an island; Ukraine is not. Big difference.
Taiwan has little agricultural land and can’t feed itself.
Taiwan depends on exporting manufactured goods made in very sophisticated, easily destroyed factories using imported materials.
....goods that used to be made in the USA. So the upside to the war will be reshoring of vital industries. Not a bad trade off.
Taiwan has the assistance of twenty seven navies patrolling the East and South China seas
No, a “man” who is ripping my country apart and humilliating is, while you worry about Russia.
No, It isn’t going to happen because America still can’t be competitive with foreign manufacturers.
Yes, I’ve long suspected that most of the Zeepers are foreigners, pretending to be Americans. At least the Canadian guy admits he’s a foreigner as he supports our tax dollars being plundered by leftist crooks to support a known money-laundering operation.
We get in a hot war with the ChiComs ( your handlers ) first thing is all Free Traitors™ will be rounded up and presumably hanged. Then all industry will be coming back. The American people will not except any more globalist shenanigans. IMO: You Free Traitors™ are playing a dangerous game.
As seen in the Black Sea, surface ships are easy targets when patrolling near land based air power, anti-ship missiles and drones, and semi-submersible drones.
