$16 McDonald’s meal leaves fans fuming — beloved fast food chain ‘no longer affordable’
New York Post ^ | Nov. 4, 2023 | Brooke Kato

An enraged McDonald’s customer says the fast food franchise is no longer affordable for ordinary Americans, calling the company’s contemporary prices “crazy.”

“So, I get there’s a labor shortage, I get there’s wage increases and a number of other things,” Idaho man Christopher Olive began in a viral TikTok clip, which has recently resurfaced.

“But $16? $16 for a burger, a large fry and a drink? It’s just crazy!” the flabbergasted content creator complained, panning to his itemized receipt from a McDonald’s restaurant in the city of Post Falls. The video was original posted on social media last December, but has now gone viral again after McDonald’s recently reported an increase in revenue directly influenced by a “strategic” hike in menu prices.

What a bunch of snobs

You don’t eat at McDonalds because you are afraid someone from church will see you

“McD’s doesn’t even man the registers anymore.”

So...all the employee spitting goes on behind a wall. Yum.

I’m not a gourmet food snob. I don’t find tough, ground, frozen then thawed dead dairy cow appetizing. I eat hamburgers, so I am not a snob. I simply have some taste and the gumption to make my own burgers that are significantly less expensive and ten times the quality and taste compare to the crap at McDonald.

I remember 60 years ago when you could get 5 burgers for a dollar. 4 if you wanted tomato and onion on it.

How could I explain myself should that happen? After all, the people in my congregation think I’m very highly cultured.

"Smokehouse Burger* $13.49"

I like their Road Kill chopped sirloin for the same price. Early-bird special. It's a decent meal, and fills you up. The problem is that the place is a half-hour away from me, and unless I have a doctor's appointment that corresponds with their opening hours, I don't go there. I only do take-out. It's been several months since I've stopped there to pick any food up. I live in one of the $hitholes of the world. The only actual sit-down franchised restaurants we have here is Applebees and Dennys, and I don't go to them. For fast-food, we have McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Moe's, Arby's and KFC. I go to none of them either.

I remember when a good sized burger was 10 cents.

Sorry you have to take a hike there. We’re fortunate to have just about any thing you want to eat in our community...including Roadhouse...just ten minutes from me...so I do pick up as often as I want.

Hi.

The only thing I can do is hunt my food, field dress my food, butcher my food and cook my food.

And Social Security is going up 3.2% in a 7% inflation economy.

Oh, Baloney! I’m all for free enterprise, but greed, including corporate greed, is immoral. There’s rich, and then there’s filthy rich.

They still sell the cheap regular hamburgers, for around $1. If people “choose” not to buy them, that is their fault.

I can and DO sometimes go and buy 10 of them or more, and will spend less than this guy did!

Drinks have always been overpriced and I almost never get them and when I do, I always say “no ice” because you get about 3 times more without the ice taking up most of the room. And fries are just extra carbs.

It costs me about $2.60 to make a 90% lean quarter pound cheeseburger, bun, soda and tater tots at home and takes less time than driving to MacDonalds. I’m guessing that the cost to drive my car to MacDonalds is at least another $1.50, so my net cost is about a dollar.

Sam’s club is selling 90% ground beef for $4.98 a pound and it is really good burger. While there, I pick up a $9 4 meat pizza from the snack bar and a rotisserie chicken for $5. For under $20 I have the major part of at least 10 meals. I still buy MacDonalds coffee while travelling and can’t find a WaWa, truck stop or RaceTrack station.

Sam’s Club has prime New York strip for $12 a pound, and prime ribeye for about $17.

Everyone can grill better burgers than McDonald's. It's the convenience that they offer.
