The San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday:
Bank branches are vanishing across the country, and San Francisco is having a record-testing year.
Twenty branches shuttered across the city through Oct. 28, according to data from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. The closures — from the central Richmond District in the west to Mission Bay in the east, from Fort Mason in the north to Bayview in the south — add up to more than the previous two years combined and represent the most in a single year since at least 2000.
…
All over California, 277 bank branches have closed so far this year, second only this century to 2020, when 325 branches closed. Branch openings are a much rarer occurrence: Only eight have occurred statewide this year.

If I have a question about my accounts, I sometimes prefer to speak to a person face-to-face. It helps me make sure the teller and I are on the "same page" as to the issue I want to resolve. The "chat" option on a bank's website is just an AI program and it is aggravating to have a question responded with "So you want to open a new account?". Only after several "Let's try again" responses from the bot do I finally get, "Let me transfer you to an associate".
The absolutely worst place to go through the "bot" routine is a pharmacy. First, they have to sell me on several vaccines that they are insistent I need, and after repeated "No" responses, they then want to sell me on their automatic re-fills. My problem is that my new prescription isn't ready even though the bot tells me it is "ready for pick-up" but the actual pharmacy has no record of a prescription being received. Try going through that merry-go-round.
(That's my rant for the day regarding the automotive customer service systems)
Are these bank closures or branch closures? They are dropping like flies around here.
If you want the big picture, the website “The Mortgage Lender Implode-o-Meter” should be bookmarked. Since 2006.
It strips away any vestige of faith you might have in banks, savings and loans, etc.
They don’t need banks. They have iPhones and cash apps.
Sounds like branches. Weirdly, in my area of Central CT to Western MA, we have seen some new bank branches open or be announced in the last 6 months. Last year we had some close as a result of a merger.
Also with health clinics they first tell you if this is an emergency to call 911; then you get if you’re suicidal to call anther number; after about several these you’re asked to punch in an extension number and when it picks up it goes through the same routine again. Arrrrgggghhh
I see how this fits into the larger plan of dems/socialists/uniparty.
Crime is left unchecked so that not only people demand freedoms be tzken away for “security”,
But it also drives out businesses which cause scarcity. Whats left is far more controllable by govt, plus bonus, its difficult for regular people to use.
In the case of banks, it helps further the plans for more cashless society to emerge.
Enter your PIN at the ATM and it displays:
Thanks for being a valued customer!
Then the power goes out.
My bank branches in San Francisco are few and far between(visit SF frequently, have immediate family there) - especially ones with ATMs. The ATM I use has a security section you have to enter first via an outside door using your card, then you can access the ATM. I assume this is b/c crime is such an issue there.
The ATMs I use also have doors to enter a lobby…no big deal .
…
I prefer what I have now. I walk in the bank, stroll by the bank officer’s door, and if it is open I ask “Hey, do you have a minute?”. She will either respond with “Sure come on in”, or “give me a minute and I’ll be right with you”. In just a short while, any questions are answered and any problems resolved in half the time it would take to go through the phone menu.
In Australia, they’re also getting rid of ATMs, as they transition to ‘digital currencies’. I’d say that’s not too smart of they really insist on joining the Neocons to get Russia to light off some EMPs, but they’ll have to learn that the hard way.
Branch closures, I’m sure. Banking wants to go cashless, so physical branches are less needed.
It’s nice you have enough money that she remembers who you are. If you were one of the prols that wouldn’t work, she’d call the security guard on you. Where I bank there are cordoned off lines to see a teller first or an electronic kiosk where you enter your info to be scheduled to see a bank officer then you sit and wait until your name is called.
In the small, rural town I’ve moved to in NW Tenn., the bank knows everyone on a first name basis. It’s very nice.
