A review of the studies done so far has concluded that wearing masks really does help prevent the spread of covid-19. It is far from the first paper to come to this finding, so why does the issue remain so controversial? The problem is that it isn’t easy to carry out individual studies of the highest standard during a pandemic.
That standard is a randomised controlled trial (RCT), in which people are randomly assigned to either get a treatment or intervention, in this case wearing a mask, or not. Because of the practical difficulties, only two RCTs have looked at whether wearing masks prevents the spread of covid-19 outside of healthcare settings.
One, in Denmark, was too small to produce a statistically significant result. The other, in Bangladesh, found that in villages randomly chosen to be supplied with masks, 35 per cent fewer people aged more than 60 years old and 10 per cent fewer people overall got symptomatic infections, compared with villages that weren’t supplied with masks.

Tons of studies show no effect.
What a completely retarded writer.
The science sez it works! Except for the science sez it doesn’t but that science is bad science! My science is good science!
We live in a cargo cult society.
Face masks work well at Virtue Grandstanding.
Whomever posts this data and says that masks are safe and prevent viruses need to be asked that question again, but under pain of death. Set up the tests. If they stand firm, perform the tests and see. If he’s actually right, there’s nothing to worry about. If he’s lying or paid trolling, that will sort out. I’m tired of these plebs trying to tell a free society what we must do.
Who the heck wants to ward it off? The reality is that most people are going to catch whatever comes around so catch it, get over it, and be done with that particular variant as soon as you can- its so non deadly that the chances of dying are near zero
We do not have to be a nation of sissies crouching under the bed everytime a virus flu or cold comes along. 🤧 I’ve had it already, covid I mean, and it was very survivable. A few days feeling bad, then I got over it.... just like every flu that comes along. ,aybe there will come a day that I am too sick to fight off any f,u, cold or virus, BUT that day is not now, and won’t be for a very long time unless a truly dangerous virus comes along with a death rate of more than .3% or whatever ridiculously low percentage that covid supposedly was
And for the record- nearly everyone who caught covid for the three year reign of tyranny under Obama er Biden, were wearing vacc8nated and boosted, were wearing face masks, distancing, and washing their hands with alcohol obsessively- they caught it at the same rate as unmasked no doubt.
No thanks!
I for one don’t want to walk around with a bio-hazard strapped to my face.
How has it been debunked ? I didn’t realize that.
Because other studies *prove* the opposite, that they do not stop the transmission of viruses and they do more harm than good with people continually breathing in recirculated air.
Because the scientific community has no credibility left.
Here’s one take, but it has been torn to shreds from multiple angles:
Hoax
What a f**king POS LIAR.
The ONLY reason this remains a “controversial topic” is because of asshats like this who disregard the CLEAR science showing there has been NO benefit whatsoever from masks in preventing spread of Covid19 or any OTHER URI virus. If masks worked for this purpose, we would have been using them globally, seasonally, since “The Great Influenza” of 1918-1919, but they didn’t, we don’t, and again, virtue signaling to the globalist masters is starting again.
If you can breathe through a mask, the Covid virus can pass through the mask.
This is not an RCT. The locale isn't correctly controlled. For a viral infection, the exposure is often dictated by the isolation of the individual, or in this case the village.
Actually the most detailed study of masks and Covid19 spread did show that masks work but only for a relatively short time. In close face to face proximity to an infected person, if only one person had a mask, protection was about 20-30 minutes before a sufficient viral load was transmitted to the uninfected person. If both people were wearing masks, the time increased to just a bit over an hour.
N95 Masks can work for a short period but are not very efficient if you are near an infected person for any significant amount of time.
While a mask cannot stop all COVID from passing through, it can increase the time it takes for a sufficient viral load to pass on to an uninfected person. Viral Load is the key and it is something many people are not understanding. Everybody has probably ingested some COVID virus but not in sufficient viral loads to actually make them sick.
A veritable ask mandate..
All kinds of situations where people "ask" but expect unquestioning compliance. Remember Radio Shack's tactics? I went in once for a component [that the regular stores didn't carry], and a $2 cash sale became a demand for name, address, phone number...
When I politely stated that this was a cash sale, that I wasn't interested in 'signing up for' their ads, the clerk's demeaner turned on a dime, and he got all nasty about what management had instructed him to do, that I was going to make him look bad.
"Is this information required in order to make a purchase?"
No, eh? Gee, yes or no, I still wasn't interested in providing the entitled little punk and his corporate handlers with my personal information. If I didn't need that part, I would have walked out no sale. He rang it up in a big huff.
Holding customers hostage for being the only game in town (pre-internet) -- pathetic, but apparently it works, for a while at least.
Look what happens when those who have never been told "No" are told "No". Their entire command and control center blows up.
"No." A simple word that is the destroyer of worlds. 🤔
My response. If someone wants to wear a stupid face mask...be my guest. Wear 2...or 5...or 10. Makes no difference to me.
Just don’t force me to wear one.
“Ward off” is a rarely used medical or scientific term. It is commonly used to explain evil spirits and werewolves, however.
