FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Some might call Karl Hirsch a hero.
A Fort Lauderdale cop, Hirsch used his patrol cruiser to help stop a moving car that had two little girls in the backseat and no driver. But instead of praise, Hirsch got a 20-hour unpaid suspension.
The Jan. 26 incident caused no injuries, but triggered an Internal Affairs investigation ordered by Police Chief Patrick Lynn. On May 24, Internal Affairs investigators notified Hirsch he was being investigated for potentially violating department policy by “carelessly, negligently or intentionally causing waste, loss or damage to any city property.”
In the process of stopping the runaway car, Hirsch caused nearly $10,000 in damage to his own squad car.

Good grief. Bureaucracy gone mad.
SAVE THE COP CAR....LET THE KIDS DIE.....
The question to be answered by the chief is, was officer Hirsh supposed to just let the 2 little girls be injured or killed?
Could the chief have done the job without damage to the patrol car?
They obviously need a new “Chief”
Something tells me his 20 hour unpaid suspension is about to net him $500K, because that’s how much the public hates government and bureaucrats.
Wow. File this under “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.” In fact, make it Exhibit A.
Police Chief Patrick Lynn should be reprimanded and then fired. At once.
It’s pretty much standard practice to pit-maneuver fleeing suspect cars and flip them, often with much damage to patrol cars which the department expects.
Sounds like DeSantis should weigh in. Yes, he’s busy galivanting around the country.
Sadly this is why union protection is necessary when management is incompetent.
Amazing. Had the cop shot at the car his department would ‘copsplain’ and justify it but since no one was hurt they’re angry about it.
Insanity. Just more proof that the 200 year experiment of police needs to end.
Bring back armed citizens, sheriff’s posses, and vigilante committees. Crime will come to an end PDQ.
WHAT??
I haven’t a clue about how to start a Go Fund Me for this cop but I’ll bet it would generate more than 2-1/2 days pay.
No Good Deed Goes Unpunished...
Well, DUH! That's not The Department's car nor kids!
Better to let it roll through a red light with a school bus coming one way and a gasoline tanker the other.
how does the rule read?
save a life
unless there is property damage
then no
Someone has probably already done this but Patrick Lynn needs to to receive some loving attention including his address so others can share their views with him.
It won’t be terrorists or foreign armies that destroy America; it’ll be the bureaucrats. They even frightened Chairman Mao.
It was also Hirsch’s THIRD preventable crash in a police vehicle this year.
Maybe he’s not cut out to be a police officer. Or maybe he should be assigned to a bicycle patrol.
