ABC’s The View led Friday’s show with news about the manhunt for the mass shooting suspect in Maine, but quickly turned to statements that have been made by elected officials. And then co-host Joy Behar turned to the greatest inspiration of some of those elected officials, who publicly disagreed with them — former President Ronald Reagan.
After showing a clip of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stating that mass shootings are a problem of “the human heart” and “not guns,” the audience booed before Behar went back to “Saint Ronald Reagan,” the former Republican president who remains one of the greatest idols for many modern-day Republicans. In a vintage C-Span clip from 1989, Reagan states the following:
I do not believe in taking away the right of the citizen to own guns for sporting, for hunting and so forth, or for home defense. But I do believe that an AK-47 or a machine gun is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.
To which Behar replied: “They [Republicans] revere him. Why don’t they follow him?

That is to say, bringing up Reagan (on the left or the right) doesn't have the resonance it did 25 years ago. Most people just shrug and say "Oh, that guy that was president a long time ago?"
It’s like bringing up FDR today. 40 years ago, Rats worshipped him, only a matter of time before he gets cancelled too.
Not exactly.
The original AR-15s -- including the ones Stoner/Armalite built to market to the US military -- were select-fire.
They all were stamped AR-15 until they began being manufactured specifically for the military. We had SpecOps/SpecWar troops in Vietnam carrying select-fire AR-15s before the M-16 became the general issue infantry rifle.
And there are semi-auto-only sporting arms sold today trademarked as AK-47s.
But, in fact, virtually all of the AK-pattern weapons manufactured since 1959, regardless whether they're semi-auto or select-fire, aren't AK-47s, they're AKMs. In other words, if you're less than 70 years of age, most everything you've ever called an AK-47 wasn't.
I remember watching an episode of Gunny Time with the late R Lee Emory which compared the AK-47 to the AR-16. To his dismay and against his prejudice, the AK came out better.
ARs always win Youtube mud and dust tests.
There are TONS of AK-47s manufactured that are semi-auto only. Or there would be except no one has made an AK-47 since 1959 (see my above post for details).
And there is NO SUCH THING as a Class III weapon. There is NO system classifying weapons as I, II, or III, and there is NO LAW designating ANY firearm as belong to a "Class III."
You could accurately describe them as an NFA device or a Title II weapon (the section of the US code dealing with the NFA), but there are no "Class III" weapons. None. Class III refers to a Special Occupational Tax (SOT), a business tax that retailers have to pay to engage in the sale of NFA devices. No part of this tax is passed along to the retail customer except that it comes out of the business's profits, just like their electric bill.
A Class I SOT is for manufacturers of NFAs, the Class II SOT is for NFA importers, and Class III SOT is paid by NFA retailers. Which covers everything from sort-barreled shotguns to suppressors, not just full-auto weapons.
It's an extraordinarily complex subject and you shouldn't trust the legislation of firearms to anyone who isn't extraordinarily well-versed in them. And that clearly excludes Boss Ray-Gun and Trump45/47.
The mass shooting suspect in Maine bad per the View but Hamas murders in Israel okay.
Selective reasoning in action
He was my president not my idol. Just like the rest of us, he wasn’t right about everything he just had a better “batting average” than any democrat.
The very man you CONSTANTLY said was a "senile old man" with his finger on the nuclear button?
The guy who was going to get us all into WWIII?
THAT Ronald Reagan?
STFU and look at what you and 81 million "voters" have installed in the White House right now.
My give a damn meter is pegging at zero over what Reagan supposedly thought about "AK-47s".
They revere ML King. Why don’t they follow him?
“But I do believe that an AK-47 or a machine gun...”
Pick one.
