US officials said advising Israel to delay Gaza ground op to allow hostage talks

The White House wants Israel to delay its ground operation in the Gaza Strip to allow more time for negotiations to release the hostages held by terrorists there and for aid to enter the Palestinian enclave, several unnamed US officials told The New York Times.

Officials said that the US is not asking Israel to abort the ground invasion but is advising it to wait, and that Washington still fully supports Israel’s aim to destroy Hamas in the wake of the deadly onslaught.

Nonetheless, four senior Israeli defense officials told the Times the ground invasion has been repeatedly put off and they don’t know the reason why. Two suggested the wait was due to hostage negotiations.

The deal will be the US must take in the Hamas refugees to get hostages. No one wants the refugees so the plan is to get them to the US.

> I will argue that the IDF doesn’t really need to send in troops on the ground when they are effectively destroying Hamas from the air, artillery and naval gunfire. <

That makes sense. I’m not an expert in infantry tactics. But I wonder what is to be gained by occupying Gaza. Hamas forces are not traditional military units that can be encircled, then destroyed. They are irregulars that can easily melt into the civilian population. Hit and run.

I suppose that if the occupation is permanent, Hamas would not be able to regroup. But that would be very expensive for Israel, in blood and in treasure.

Sounds to me like Hamas has a winning strategy.

There is a major flaw in your logic.

That is, the IDF and Israeli political leaders actually know what they are doing. The world press, leaders and especially the Biden administration don’t. And, what’s more, the Israeli’s are actually implementing the existing plan.

In effect Biden is recommending not invading while the IDF is already and has been not invading. The world media after checking what has gone on before breathlessly advised the invasion was imminent, any minute now. There has always been an invasion by IDF ground troops to “mop up” in the past. This time, guess what? There isn’t.

While Hamas is the enemy Gaza as the haven of operations must be destroyed to the limit allowed by the world pacifists. the world pacifists are slow to catch on and Gaza is being worked over good.

If the US is paying a ransom, then the US is funding a demonic terrorist group?

I am of the belief that Israel’s military is not capable of waging a successful ground campaign in Gaza.

If I was an Israeli citizen I’d have no confidence in my government to do anything right — especially after the country was invaded by a paramilitary force using Toyota pickup trucks, paraglide equipment, and bolt cutters.

Israel should be proceeding with the invasion of Gaza on their own timetable, and not answer to the “slow-walk” the Biden regime is trying to force upon them. Very likely, most of the hostages could die, as Hamas would not want to give up their hostage card easily, but will make it as costly as they can for the Israelis.

The way to rid your yard of moles is to use the exhaust gas from an automobile engine, to send carbon monoxide into the burrows. This is, of course, as a wartime strategy, prohibited by the Geneva conventions, so the next move would be to enter the caverns and tunnels with a very bright battery of lights, illuminating the way through the twists and turns, the scout troop remaining behind the lights, picking off the stragglers who lingered too long before fleeing, and driving the rest to a dead end or out into the open.

Works on roaches.

what is to be gained

Since the US is not giving them bunker busters for this, the only way to deal w/the tunnel system is by getting in there. That's where they're going to have a good chunk of their weapons stored.

They’re already dead.

Many here knew that the moment it was announced.

The elephant in the room:

The people behind xiden pulling the strings and their willingness to gift $$ to hostage taking terror entities.

And again I throw water on the xiden admin’s claims that the USN force off Israel is there to support Israel...

There’s an even bigger flaw in YOUR logic.

If the IDF and Israeli political leaders actually knew what they were doing, the country wouldn’t have been invaded in the first place.

Personally, I have been operating under the assumption that Israel’s forced COVID vaccination program has made the country’s entire population retarded. Or maybe the retardation had already set in before that — which made the Israeli people so compliant in the face of the government’s Nazi directives.

gas

I've thought this too. Alternatively, could pour gasoline or other flammable into it and light it. Only problem is, a shut door is all it'd take to close off that one corridor. I doubt the tunnel system has no safeguards in this regard.

And Hamas has already thought of this as a defense for intruding Israelis - they can gas a section themselves when Israelis are in it. Interestingly enough, there are claims of Hamas acquiring chemical weapons plans.

Excuse me? I have no problem with Israel blasting Hamas and Gaza into rubble, just as I want to see the Ukrainians kick the Muscovites out of Ukraine and damage the Muscovite war machine beyond repair. I don’t care how it’s done, as long as the bad guys lose and lose badly, so that my kids and grandkids don’t have to fight them in the next 3-5 years.

The Israelis still have to clean out the 300+ miles of tunnels under the rubble, which are full of Hamas rats, and where they store their weapons and ammo.

If so, I hope Israel knows exactly what it’s doing. Urban warfare is a nasty business. It grinds up armies. The Battle of Stalingrad is a good example of that.

I would also imagine Hamas has laid all sorts of traps in those tunnels.

Had the 2020 election not been stolen, I suppose we wouldn’t even be talking about this. Trump knew how to keep the peace.

The US carrier is there as a deterrent and to support SEAL TEAMS when we locate the US citizens being held in Gaza. Then the SEAL teams will go in and get them.
