A Democratic senator blocked a resolution condemning antisemitic speech on college campuses proposed by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Thursday.
The resolution, for which Hawley sought unanimous consent, comes as pro-Palestinian protests have erupted on college campuses after the deadly surprise attack on Israel carried out by Hamas terrorists that killed and wounded thousands in Israel Oct. 7.
"Students at Ohio State praised the heroic resistance in Gaza," Hawley said on the floor. "Heroic - it's now heroic - to massacre Jews in cold blood. It's now heroic to try and carry out a genocide against Jewish people.
"Students at the University of North Carolina said it is our moral obligation to be in solidarity - no matter the pathway to liberation, their word that they choose. This includes violence.
"Calling for the death of Jewish people is not just another opinion. Calling for the genocide and celebrating the genocide of Jewish babies is not just another opinion."
Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., blocked the unanimous consent resolution, noting most of the protests were not violent, "as repugnant as some of them were in terms of the words." He said the resolution would "smear all of the students who engage in these protests," potentially violating First Amendment rights.
"I would stand with my colleagues in standing up to hateful rhetoric, condemning antisemitism," Van Hollen said. "But what this resolution does is not that."
Hawley called it a "failure of moral nerve."
"What's happened today is one senator has blocked this body from condemning the attacks against Jewish people in Israel, Jewish Americans in this nation, and pretend that there's some moral equivalency here between this and what the threat of the State of Israel is under," Hawley said. "We have students in this country who are specifically calling for and celebrating..."

Hawley has no problem with free speech in this case, but nearly all speech has consequences and may rightfully draw condemnation.
Maryland: an embarrassing pimple on the face of this nation. Beautiful scenery, lots of great landmarks and things to do, but atrocious politics and awful leaders.
Not a joke. A lot like it. Our social media censorship is today’s version of book burning bonfires in the streets.
And dehumanizing Jews is back on college campuses.
This time it appears to be the result of many years of Marxist indoctrination by colleges and universities...which I guess is why there's no interest in condemning anti-Semitism at such campuses.

No one is proposing any law here, just a resolution. Big difference.
The worst people in America, though, are those other Democrats, the low-info ones who simply "vote Democrat because our family has always voted Democrat" and have no idea, or are just in denial, about what their party has become.

This a$$hole attacked the Trump Administration after the protests in Charlottesville for their “apparent decision to de-emphasize combating far-right extremism,” yet he has not desire to go after the anti-semites dug in like ticks at college campuses.
Looking forward to seeing how these folks in DC talk and act when the shooting starts and the bombs start going off.

Let’s see....over 100k Afghan refugees. Illiterate and absolutely zero education. They don’t even know when they were born. Seems to me that they’re prime candidates for the sneaky, manipulative imam/terror cell leader to convince them to do something heinous, strike at the infidel and die for the cause.
Wonder if there are any candidates in any of these crowds, probably not. They all came to the US for a better life....ha ha ha ha

Anyone supporting these demonic people attacking Israel are more than deserving of any condemnation they receive. It’s not a smear, when it is the truth, just as in slander.
What about Anti-White racism and Anti-Christian bigotry on college campuses ?
Hawley at one time was pushing to have TikTok banned in the United States. Don’t know if he backpedaled on that one.
