A CHEERFUL HEART IS GOOD MEDICINE

Proverbs 17:22

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

Which came first the chicken or the egg? We may never know the answer to this question, but when it comes to living a fulfilled life, the joy precedes the good feelings. As a matter of fact, the joy is the antidote to the woes of life. Humor is great medicine. Humor helps us to see the big picture. It provides us with a new context by which to view our situation. It gives us a different vantage point which we can use to reevaluate life. Humor gives us reasons to feel good!

My prayer today is that we find humor in all of life.

LT Brian J. C. Haley, CHC, USNR

God’s Unexpected Ways

Bible in a Year:

God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise.

1 Corinthians 1:27

The pastor squinted over his sermon, holding the pages close to his face so he could see the words. He was extremely nearsighted and read each carefully chosen phrase with an unimposing monotone voice. But God’s Spirit moved through Jonathan Edwards’ preaching to fan the revival fires of the First Great Awakening and bring thousands to faith in Christ.

God often uses unexpected things to accomplish His perfect purposes. Writing about His plan to draw wayward humanity near through Jesus’ loving death for us on a cross, Paul concludes, “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong” (1 Corinthians 1:27). The world expected divine wisdom to look like our own and to come with irresistible force. Instead, Jesus came humbly and gently to save us from our sins and so became for us “wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption” (v. 30).

The eternal and all-wise God became a human baby who would grow to adulthood and suffer and die and be raised to life in order to lovingly show us the way home to Him. He loves to use humble means and people to accomplish great things we could never achieve in our own strength. If we’re willing, He may even use us. .

Reflect & Pray

What unexpected things have you seen God do? How will you make yourself available to Him today?

Loving Father, thank You for Your unexpected ways. Help me to follow You closely today, so that I may be used for what’s pleasing to You.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...and a Blessed Lord’s Day and Shavua Tov to you and yours.

Hope you and Blue had some quality time today.

My tentative plan to get some leaves raked in the back yard has been foiled by all day rain.

I knew I should have raked today, but there are still so many leaves up in the trees, that I know it would be a losing battle! Grrrrr

Howdy, Kathy.

Another “lovely” day up there, I see. You’re never going to get the leaves off your deck at this rate. They’ll be there next spring when the snow melts. LOL

It was mostly sunny here today but cool, and a whipping north wind took a lot of the fun out of being outside. Tomorrow will be chillier.

Have you had more rain? Is your creek running clear?

We had snow one day, it melted, and now it’s raining again. Almost an inch since last night. I need a little time for leaves to dry so I can get them off the deck and out of my driveway.

That is my issue with my gutters. They are full and completely clogged. I tried to clean a section over the door onto the deck and a river of water ran down my sleeve. I got soaked. LOL!

But I need a professional gutter cleaner as I can only get a small section on the deck.

Hi Kathy. Blessing to you!

My late father-in-law was wounded on Iwo Jima.

Thank God it got him off that terrible place.

Extra prayers for Israel...

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.
