I remember during the first Gulf War the US had to put Patriots in Israel Because Saddam was firing his SCUDS to try and draw Israel into the conflict. I remember watching the news showing young US soldiers manning the Patriots and old Israeli woman bringing them baskets of food and thanking them. If I recall correctly the Patriots were not 100% successful back then. Some of the SCUDS were old and beat and falling apart mid-flight.
