I thought Jordan would’ve been a great Speaker. I don’t think Scalise is a bad choice. We’ll see.

Gosh. It’s almost like we have one political party. Would be nice to have a real Opposition Party, but I think that’s illegal.

There was no “House ballot.” The Republican House members may have held a secret ballot to select a preferred candidate for the Speaker post, but the vote to elect a Speaker is held in public session — with Republicans AND Democrats casting votes.

This makes me assume Mitch McConnell was working behind the scenes to get his preference promoted. Quid pro quo, of some fashion. I’m disappointed. I thought we were on a roll to the next level up in partisan influence.
How ironic. After years of politely declining to run for a party leadership position, Jim Jordan does chose to go for it, only to be smacked back down by something that looks like a RINO.

...how is this an improvement over McCarthy? Aside from Gaetz and his personal gripes, who benefits by this?

This is a blow to Trump if you think about it. He endorsed Jordan.
