A majority of Republicans in the United States today would like to see the next Speaker of the House to be “loyal” to President Donald J. Trump, a new poll from CBS/YouGov has found.
According to their survey, conducted between Oct. 4-6, 59 percent of Republicans indicated that they would like the new speaker to be loyal to the president.
The same CBS poll also found that among Democrats, Independents, and Republicans, a large percentage of each party approved of the ousting of former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.
Their data showed that 67 percent of Democrats approved of McCarthy’s removal, while 53 percent of Republicans also approved. 61 percent of Independents were also supportive of McCarthy’s firing.
According to the CBS/YouGov data, Republicans primarily indicated that they did not see McCarthy as an “effective” speaker (80 percent). 54 percent also disapproved of McCarthy’s performance as speaker because he “worked with Democrats,” while 39 percent disapproved because “he didn’t pay enough attention to ‘MAGA.’”
Currently, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, who is also serving as the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has announced his intent to run for Speaker of the House. President Donald Trump has also endorsed Jordan’s bid, along with a slate of America First representatives, including Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., and Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas.
In his endorsement, President Trump called Rep. Jordan a “STAR” who would be “STRONG on Crime, Borders, our Military/Vets, & 2nd Amendment.”
The race to select a new Speaker of the House intensified over the weekend amid Hamas terrorists’ deadly incursion into Israel, leaving countless men, women, and children dead.
According to NBC, the interim Speaker of the House, Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., is essentially powerless to make any big decision in Congress in terms of what the U.S. can do to help Israel in the wake of the Hamas attacks.
I owe loyalty to my country...no one man.
Another BS poll. Trying to foment the fake dichotomy of “loyal to the Constitution” versus “loyal to Trump”.
Loyal?
Note the loaded terminology they use.
It’s a YouGov poll. Of course they’d posit a false premise.
The next speaker can be all he can be....but the fact is...the Dems hold the Senate and Biden has his pen.
The want the image holding the flag and swearing allegiance to their leader. //s
I’d settle for loyal to the Constitution.
Same.
That's what Trump represents.
Maybe, considering that so few in Congress voted to dump McCarthy, Republicans should be more focused on voting in Reps who will support Donald Trump.
Getting a Speaker who supports Trump should flow naturally from that.
Indeed.
... I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; ...
What about a majority of Democrats?
The Speaker of the House is not elected by "Republicans in the United States". He's not even elected by Republican House Members.
He's elected by 433 Members of the House, and what a majority of "Republicans in the United States" want doesn't matter very much at all.
How does the New Speaker to be feel about Members of Congress openly supporting Terrorist and their reign of violence and death in the name of Peace?
Shouldn’t supporting Terrorism be a reason for expulsion?
You know what?
I want the Republicans to be loyal to God & country first.
If they do that, everything else will get in line.
The GOP needs to vote for Jordan on Wednesday by a vote of unanimous consent.
Yes, only so long as he promises no more aid to Ukraine. Otherwise, let’s find another speaker.
I would settle for just being loyal to America for a change.
Bush Crime Family members hardest hit.
Rather than being loyal to the UniParty like the last ten Speakers.
