Meanwhile, Kevin McCarthy has told his Republican conference that despite prior statements, he will not attempt to become the House Speaker again and will instead retire to his home district in California.
No one is quite sure what comes next; what is clear is that Gaetz has channeled the frustration of the Republican/MAGA base into an actionable result. This should not come as a surprise to the GOPe, although many of the cloistered clan continue pretending not to understand the dynamic at play.
Allow me to provide some simple clarity.
♦ In 2009 72% of the country, and an even larger percentage of the Republican voters, did not want Obamacare. The govt takeover of healthcare was along purely ideological grounds. For the 2010 midterm election, the professional Republican apparatus campaigned on this single issue – repeal Obamacare. The voters destroyed the Democrats and flipped 67 seats to Republican control. The professional Republicans wanted the House, frustrated American voters gave it to them.
The Republicans did nothing.
♦ In 2012, the professional Republicans campaigned on retaining the House and asked to begin a process of taking down the Democrat control of the Senate. Remember, it was a 60/40 Senate when the Obamacare boondoggle was begun. Keep the House, help us take Senate seats, and we will repeal Obamacare and balance the budget. That was the call of the 2012 professional Republicans. The voters delivered. The GOPe kept the house, took 6 seats in the Senate and introduced a wave of fresh Republican blood.
The Republicans did nothing.

Sad but true.
"Mind" seems out of place there.
And people cell me I am wrong when I say, “the voters (including conservatives!) love our “socialism lite”!
Good read, thanks.
As I’m pondering the removal of McCarthy and the existing state of affairs it drives home the reality that every major factor impacting my life: immigration and how it’s changed my community, inflation resulting from unhinged spending, the perverse, decadent culture around me that insists on invading my life and undermining my family is in play more than ever.
It’s the growing reality over many years that I am powerless to effect change because those who would fight back are being stripped of their democratic rights and prerogatives by a system rigged by the greedy and power hungry.
In that sense I gain because a system that exists by steamrolling has been brought to a stop. Gaetz is the guy standing in front of the tank in Tiananmen Square.
Sadly, the result may be the same, but at least it can inspire hope for the future.
This woman’s parents were public school teachers in the 1990s. Look at what they could afford compared to today.
But while I have you here, I want you to think about why life is different now.
Over the past 15 years or so, we’ve been promised “hope and change,” but every single thing the government has done has made healthcare more expensive, housing more expensive, food more expensive - literally all of life more expensive.
That doesn't apply very well to a House Speaker.
Matt Gaetz's constituents don't cast a single vote for (or against) Kevin McCarthy.
There's your problem right there. These people weren't the normal, middle-class workers she portrays them to be. They were government employees who operated in a world where their compensation had no relationship to productivity, competition, accountability, or anything else that drives a functioning economy.
One of the reasons this country is bankrupt today is that current taxpayers are still paying enormous sums of money to support this woman's parents even long after they've stopped collecting paychecks.
No. You’re wrong. The SCOTUS decision could have been revisited and overturned, just like Roe v. Wade with the six judge conservative majority. Congress immediately made it into law. Look it up.
I agree. People in general love the idea of supposedly getting something for free. That’s why slick political campaigns and even misleading advertisements work so well. They play off of gullibility and greed. Of course, nothing is really free as there’s always something given in exchange for it.
What does one do with this putrid party? I can’t vote Democrat and I can’t vote Republican anymore. There is simply no choices left to the voters but Marxist and Marxist Lite.
I’ll vote for Trump or DeSantis in 2024, but down ticket I have no choices-NONE. I’ll vote in state and local races but I have to tell you the state Republicans are about to the point I’m done with them.
In 1860 the Republican Party stood for something and it saved the Union. In 2024, it’s decided it stands for absolutely nothing and as all but assured another civil war.

I wasn’t talking about Gaetz or the speakership. You need to read the comment I was replying to for proper context.
Just heard on Fox that Jordan will vie to be speaker. Good or bad?
Jim Jordan is the same.
Jim Jordan says a lot of good stuff, but I think his great desire is to do nothing and allow the Democrats to work their will. I don’t respect him.
What does one do with this putrid party?

The GOP is what it is. The party’s DNA is one of weakness, appeasement, and deceit. The party apparatchiks control the money flow and will see to it that the party never reforms or changes.
Note typo
“cell” = “tell”
I do wish you could go back and edit!
You have to set up the case and it has to be set up well!
USSC is reactive NOT active! They can’t revisit things unless there’s a case brought before them to review.
“Just heard on Fox that Jordan will vie to be speaker. Good or bad?”
He’d be better than McCarthy, though he seems to be blowing a lot of smoke as chairman of Judiciary.
