Kevin McCarthy Defeated in Effort to Quash GOP Dissidents: Live Analysis

Kevin McCarthy failed in an initial vote to block an effort to oust him by Rep. Matt Gaetz, putting his position as House speaker in peril.

Gaetz’s "motion to vacate" the speakership will now head for an official vote.

To prevail, McCarthy or his foes will need a majority of those voting, not just Republicans. Typically Republicans can lose no more than four GOP votes on party-line votes when all members are present. Democratic leaders recommended Tuesday that colleagues vote against saving McCarthy.

Trump had control of ALL 3 branches AND our side LIED and stabbed him in the back at EVERY TURN!!

That's not correct. Like it or not, President Trump did not veto ONE CR. Not one. And he signed into law the largest free money giveaway ever.

How on earth does Jeffries get a majority of the votes when they are in the minority?

The only way he could realistically win is if a handful of Republicans switched parties and became democrats.

Tell us exactly how there is any other way.

Now we are stuck with a bare house majority, and a democrat senate and presidency, mostly because of our previous President, who did nothing to stop spending.

It was Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi that sent Trump the spending bills. Yet you blame Trump.

Trump could have vetoed and shutdown down the government I guess. So then you are for Gaetz doing what he did today to try to "stop spending", right?

Jane asked you for your source about your Liz Cheney claim. Where is it?

Rep. Matt Gaetz
@RepMattGaetz

I don’t think voting against @SpeakerMcCarthy is chaos.

I think $33 Trillion in debt is chaos.

I think not passing single-subject spending bills is chaos.

I think being governed by continuing resolutions and omnibus bills is chaos.

Chaos is somebody we cannot trust with their word.

That’s why I’ve moved to vacate the chair.

You plan to reduce the debt, Congressman Gaetz?

So did the abolishing Roe vs Wade originate from Linsey Graham? I always wondered who thought that was a good idea right before the 2022 elections. It screamed to me SABOTAGE.

So 95% of all lefty Dems voted to oust McCarthy (202 out of 212). Well, just know that you are in agreement with AOC, The Squad, all of Dems in the House who voted to impeach Trump. Dems know how to win and the long game, we dont. Gingrich was right, this was just childish

McCarthy will need RAT votes to survive as Speaker.

The RATs all voted with Mister Gaetz and to unseat McCarthy.

McCarthy states that he'll not run for SOTH again.

So, would you prefer the status-quo? We’re in debt to our eyeballs. This country is going down the crapper and McCarthy is large part of the problem.

We didn't get $33 TRILLION in debt overnight. The dems are primarily to blame, but a LOT of it goes all the way back to the Bushes. Yes, McCarthy played along, but as I said, I'm not, nor was I ever a big fan, but it begs the question "Who can unite the GOP, build on the very small majority they have in the House and reduce the debt?".

The ONLY person I can think of that might have a prayer of accomplishing this is DONALD J. TRUMP, but he has previously stated that he didn't want to be Speaker.

bizarre to burn the House down - then go out on recess for days. like there isn’t work to be done, looks seat-of-the-pants to me, especially when they complained about same sort of thing with McC, ahem.

Again, Mr. Luntz is that you??? lol. McCarthy is gone and McConnell should be next. We just got rid of one walking corpse in government (difi) and still have a walking corpse as POTUS (Biden) and how many more times must McConnell freeze on camera before he steps down due to his obvious medical issue?

It appears from the media and my personal experience that the whole earth is full of extremely aggressive and unhappy people. Anybody else notice that or is it just me?
