Kevin McCarthy failed in an initial vote to block an effort to oust him by Rep. Matt Gaetz, putting his position as House speaker in peril.
Gaetz’s "motion to vacate" the speakership will now head for an official vote.
To prevail, McCarthy or his foes will need a majority of those voting, not just Republicans. Typically Republicans can lose no more than four GOP votes on party-line votes when all members are present. Democratic leaders recommended Tuesday that colleagues vote against saving McCarthy.
don’t disagree - but being lured by the Pinkjacketed Pied Piper to burn the House down maybe wasn’t the only solution to be found - but good luck!
Thanks for the Thread and post!
How hard is it getting back to Regular Order?
“Listening now to the proceeding on CSPAN. My opinion of Gaetz has gone up dramatically!”
Mine as well.
For those updating this thread while watching the proceedings, I tip my hat and give a big “thank you”!
What’s the other way?
More CR’s and OmniBus Bills as usual
Its time for the Freedom Caucus to make a few inroads int0 th morass of RINO....put the bounce on them so they know they need to make deals with the FC and stick to their word.....or else. This RINOs are about to be primaried out the door.
It’s a RINO festival on the debate floor
Trump for Speaker!
RINO hand wringing galore......
?? 70% of approp bills - separate ones - are done with a number remaining to be done this 40 day period that was just voted on in the CR. there is no omnibus. we are returning to regular order. ALL R’s have to take responsibility for not delivering those lingering approp bills on time since they ALL took August off - except the Comer Jordan committees who kept working on impeachment, Biden corruption.
Irrelevant!
In this business if you don’t have a plan and can’t control the consequences of the action, its worse than doing nothing!

Yeah. Only after McCarthy’s back was against the wall.
Why didn’t he do these bill months ago?
Go take your meds, Meemaw
Jim has been selling out just like the coxcomb Trey Gowdy. A fireball that fizzled out.
Sometimes, you wonder if all of Washington acts like their just participants in a reality TV show.
What lame deflection you have there, hard core, since you failed to provide a source.
Go back to your film studio, Grimmy.
I’m all for getting a new speaker, but we still don’t have the Senate. Even if we did, those losers would cave, too.
In the end, it’s all about making a statement, and nothing more. They’ll continue to cave in, and simply call it bipartisan.
“who do you think is backing Gaetz??? only 11 R’s voted against tabling. he is in bed with 200+ Dems.”
I don’t think 200+ Dems are in bed with Matt Gaetz. If anyone is in bed with the Democrats, it’s Kevin McCarthy.
Gaetz is holding up his part of the bargain. McCarthy is not.
This whole episode is McCarthy’s fault. The blame is all on him.
On X, someone said he’s already lost 6 GOP votes, which means only the Democrats can save him, and they say they won’t. Looks like the Speaker’s chair will be vacated this afternoon.
