FReeper Canteen ~ ON A GOOD DAY ~ 01 October 2023
Serving The Best Troops and Veterans In The World !! | The Canteen Crew

ON A GOOD DAY

Our worth is tested every day. We are given the choice of being nice to people or uncharitable. We are given the choice of doing our work as well as we can or of goofing off. Some days it seems the tests are harder than on others, but every day brings with it some kind of test. Even the really good days!

To have everything go wonderfully for us, to feel like a million dollars, to have one of those days when nothing and nobody can upset us, they are days when we might think we don't need God. And so we pay Him little attention. MISTAKE! BIG MISTAKE! We must never forget our good days are God's gifts to give us a breather, a taste of heaven.

"Make no mistake about this," writes St. James, "Every genuine benefit comes from above, descending from the Father of the heavenly luminaries." Good days are made in heaven. Be sure to thank God for them.

Elegant Design

Bible in a Year:

God said . . . “Let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.”

Genesis 1:20

An international research team has created a flapping-wing drone that mimics the movements of a particular bird—the swift. Swifts can fly up to ninety miles per hour and are able to hover, plunge, turn quickly, and stop suddenly. The ornithopter drone, however, is still inferior to the bird. One researcher said birds “have multiple sets of muscles which enable them to fly incredibly fast, fold their wings, twist, open feather slots and save energy.” He admitted that his team’s efforts were still only able to replicate about “10 percent of biological flight.”

God has given the creatures in our world all kinds of amazing abilities. Observing them and reflecting on their know-how can be a source of wisdom for us. The ants teach us about gathering resources, rock badgers show us the value of dependable shelter, and locusts teach us there’s strength in numbers (Proverbs 30:25–27).

The Bible tells us that “[God] founded the world by his wisdom” (Jeremiah 10:12), and at the end of each step in the creation process, He confirmed that what He’d done was “good” (Genesis 1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25, 31). The same God who created birds to “fly above the earth across the vault of the sky” (v. 20), has given us the ability to combine His wisdom with our own reasoning. Today, consider how you might learn from His elegant designs in the natural world. .

Reflect & Pray

What part of God’s creation do you admire the most? How does it speak to you about His wisdom?

Dear Father, open my eyes to Your wisdom as I consider Your creation.

Dear God:
I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman,
Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine
feel alone or forgotten.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is loving kindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

Psalm 130:7 & 8

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.

May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.

May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Howdy, Kathy.

I hope you’ve managed to find a little downtime today. You had a rough week.

It looks a little dismal up there this evening. No rain yet.
I read there was rain and snow mix forecast for tomorrow night. It would be nice if that’s changed to just rain!

These men and their families went through incredible adversities, and yet they still stood up and fought side by side with their fellow Americans against the evil that tried to overwhelm the world. Telling their stories is an absolute honor.

Hey there, Kathy.

I’ve taken it easy for the most part today. I did break down late this afternoon and gave my poor filthy car a much-needed REAL bath. I’ve hosed the excess dust off a few times but that only des so much good. After a good sponge bath, Ol’ Betsy looks much better now but not for long. It’s so dry here right now and the air is full of dirt. We MIGHT get a little rain next Friday but I’m not holding my breath.

I hope they were wrong about the rain/snow mix for you. Too early for that. At least you won’t have to get out on the streets if it does happen.

Wasn’t the moon beautiful last night? The last of the super moons this year.
